Hi all, I brougth my defender 110 (build 2012) to fix a broken front differential. The mechanics fixed the car with a brand new diff. All ok. But..... after about 50 km on the road. The grinding noises were back and also 2 caution lights. ABS and TC.
So back to the mechanic. New diagnostic: 'some oil came on to the ABS pick-up'
I susspect somerhing was not done correctly with the installation of the new front differential. Does any of you have an idea of what went wrong and how to fix this?

Was the initial diagnosis correct, the problem may not have been the diff, it may be CV joint or a bearing.

Yes the differential was quite broken.
The mecanic, latest news.
We have carried out inspection for the Noise and the malfunction lights on the cluster and the observations are as follows:
·Grease leaking from Front Left side wheel hub assembly. The grease was also found on the wheel speed sensor and ABS sensor due to which the malfunction lights appeared on the cluster.
We are now pulled down the swivel housing and are inspecting the same.

Now my question : does any of you know what the relation is between the replacement of the front differential and this 'new' problem, grease leaking from the front wheel hub assembly?

I would appreciate to learn from your techincal expertise, what whent wrong if there is some wrong doing?

As Scooby22 says the hubs would have been off to pull the half shafts out to release the diff. If you are in Dubai the heat and sand must be hard on the seals.

Latest news from the mecanic.
"Basis the initial diagnosis, we have observed that the Swivel pin lower bearing has collapsed and needs replacement along with the discard parts"

Now ofcource there is a heavy bill attached to this.
My question.
Is it possible that during (first complaint and repair) the re-assembly of the front differential and half shafts and wheel hubs something went wrong and the swivel pin lower bearing got damaged. Or a oil / grease seal got damaged causing the next problem .

As Scooby22 says the hubs would have been off to pull the half shafts out to release the diff. If you are in Dubai the heat and sand must be hard on the seals.
Yes it must be , but my landy has bearly 50.000km . I find it hard to beleave that with so little km i have these big problems one after the other

It could be that the damage to the diff was a result of the problem in the hub. Or the other way round - damaged diff resulting in a damaged hub. No doubt the damaged diff caused noise and concern to get it fixed, but was masking any damage in the hub which was also present and already there. Unless you took it apart yourself you would never know.

The oil leak from the hub and grease on ABS sensor should have been picked up when the differential was being replaced. The half shafts need to be taken out. It is possible that this could have happened during refitting.
