I've à French client with a blown 4.2sc v8... I don't know any contacts here or in England for a second hand or even a rebuilt motor. Any advice is very welcome please and some silly shït aswell.. . :D

Put your best dirty overalls on, a beret, Hands in pockets a Burning Gauloises between your lips, Shrug and look at him and say Oh Monsieur. It is English you ask the impossible but...If you av a very large cheque book we can maybe sort something out in maybe a month or so.(all said in a comedy French accent of course) as that seems to be the reaction I get here with my English car. That will give you time to find somewhere. As you know Mark the French don't hurry with anything we want from them.:D:D

If I am right, the 4.2 was fitted to LR Jagwar cars and the 4.2 was fitted to the supercharged L322.

My 2004 XK8 (Jagwar) has a 4.2 which is the multivalve engine....

I would imagine therefore, don't limit your search to LR only, but Jaguar cars too.

I imagine there will be some cosmetic differences, but the basic lump should be the same.

I have a 4.4 that could be driven to you.
Fairly sure it's the same engine block.
Transport alone to get engine from UK would be pricey at best!

Quite rare to have one of these jag units blow up..

Did it kick a rod out?

The 4.4 I wouldn't recommend as its internals are Cast the 4.2 is Forged and far stronger,

Usually the M62 boat anchor that ****s itself..

Ah right, I thought they were basically the same engine.
Not many for sale on the Bay.

Thanks all,
Turned crank shell has rendered it shat!!
Only the clients story but not yet varified. It's a 2006 l322 and I've not seen paper or physical form yet, only the clients rendition of what has happened.. Pinch of salt.

Same age as the one I sold...hope it's ok, the headlights buffed up real nice.

Thinking about it and without seeing it.
It may be worth his while looking for another car. By the time the old motor is removed, the new one redone with belts/chains, filters and other parts. The fluids along with labour and the risk of a second hand engine with a guarantee as short as a 10mm spanner with conditions... Jesus fooking wept... If it was mine I would have to think long and hard about this.. For a client it may à deal breaker...
I did an x3 last year, broken chains and a destroyed head. It cost him over 2000€ for an engine change, chains and fluids... Hmmm, rethink tomorrow.. :(

You may find a cheap Jaguar that has been pranged or something. Either the Super charged or the standard 4.2 version.

The SC doesn't have VVT whereas the normally aspirated version does. In which case, if he want's to go ahead, you'd need to swap his cams onto the "new" engine. A faff, but a doable one. It's all a great learning curve and a grand day out too :D

The 4.2's does have VVT.

better swap like for like, the 4.4 won't last..

The Super Charged doesn't have VVT because it makes little to no difference due to the extra 70bhp provided by the charger...

Supercharged [edit]
The supercharged version of the AJ26 is used in the high-performance R versions of Jaguar's cars. The engine was updated with AJ27 specifications for 2000. It produces 370 hp (276 kW; 375 PS) and 387 lb⋅ft (525 N⋅m) with the help of an Eaton supercharger (modified Roots-blower). The supercharged engine did not use variable cam timing as the normal benefits of improved volumetric efficiency are not noticeable on a boosted engine."

The L322 supercharged uses the AJ34s the latter VVT variant.
