Range Rover Sport 2006 2.7L Diesel

I was driving along the motorway minding my own business when ........

HDC Fault
Gearbox fault, Limited gears
Parking break fault
Suspension lowered but Not indicated in the 4x4 info screen
All came up in the message centre.
Yellow warning lights too.

Loss of power, limp home mode I guess.
Car visually looks balanced as it should.
Potentially happens on an incline, no specific gradient.
I switch off, take the key out, put the key back in, switch on, system check and hey presto everything is ok for another 5 miles (not always 5 miles or same amount of time) and then it happens again.

My thoughts are ride height sensor?

What do you think Landy Zone sages.

As there is no indication in the 4x4 info screen, all looks normal. Is there a way to tell which ride height sensor it is without a plug in or am I barking up the wrong tree?

I'd be looking for low voltages/bad earth's with so many faults cropping up at once.
Get it on diag would be the best start unless @gstuart has any better ideas?

Got my battery checked. 79% condition level. Alternator also checked and apparently in very good order.
I have replaced the Battery because 79% was not good enough for me.

This has not solved the problem.

I will get diagnostics done on Monday but any thoughts?

hiya

may i ask have u just bought this or had it a while please

what were the actual voltages u were getting with the engine off and then on as these use smart alternators, very sensitive and indeed have to ensure 100% that the battery and output are in perfect working order before moving onto anything else as can be chasing ur tail otherwise

what size battery in AH and CCA did u fit plse

indeed need diagnostics plugged in as it can be a multitude of things like looking for a needle in a haystack

has any work been done, gone through water, been power washed etc

just so we can then get some basic history of the RRS

apologises for all the questions, lol

I have had the car for about 6 months with no issues except having to replace the front drivers side lower suspension arm. I had a bit of a clunk while breaking. Sorted.

I had the Battery and Alternator tested by Halfords but insisted they put it through its paces because of the sensitivity to voltage issues. I have never had any starting problems and always thought it was a good starter even in the recent cold spells. They said it was fine but because the overall performance was at 79% I replaced it with
Yuasa HSB019 Silver 12V Car Battery 12v 100AH 900A.

Since writing my last post I have noticed the little charge indicator window on the Battery is clear not green which indicates it needs charging. So it is now on charge, annoying for a new battery.

I have it booked in for plug in diagnostics on Monday. I wish I had one of those Hawkeye diagnostics tools.

indeed, there’s always plenty of questions with these motors, lol

what u really need is actual voltages, so then know 100% what volts the battery has got ,inc what the alternator output is

best to buy a decent battery charger if u haven’t already gone one , ie like a CTEK

having a duff battery before u replaced it can destroy an alternator but won’t know until u have some baseline figures to go by

indeed diagnostics with these is a must or just be guessing all day long

please let us know how u get on
 
Almost definite height sensor, difficult to ascertain which one without diagnostics. Very interesting diagnostic from JAC LR on the problem.

Hi all,

I wasn’t happy with the new battery that I purchased. I didn’t like the fact that I had to charge it and I didn’t like not seeing green in the inspection window. So I took it back and got it replaced. I did a test run and hey presto HDC etc fault. The saga continues.

I had the car plugged in for fault codes today and there were a few. They are in pictorial form so I hope that helps. Any help or advice on what the problem is would be much appreciated.

Update, update, update

Well I have been chasing the HDC and associated faults for days. My biggest concern was the HDC fault.

Biggest chatter on the web was Battery or Alternator. So I changed the battery and had the alternator tested, found to be fine.

Vehicle tested All fault codes remained and HDC fault illuminated the dash board and message centre.

Next the chatter on the web was about the fuel filter P2296. So I replaced the fuel filter.
Harsh lesson No 1 - Do not over tighten the fuel sensor into the fuel filter. That cost an extra £65. Pah.

Vehicle tested All fault codes remained except P2296 but HDC fault still illuminated the dashboard and message centre.

Next the chatter on the web was about the oil temperature sensor. P0196. So as I was taking the sensor out I did an oil change. Engine flush, filter and replaced the oil temperature sensor.

Vehicle tested. I have put the car though it’s paces. No fault codes and HDC fault dashboard lights are NOT illuminated. A cautious woo hoo!

So for my particular fault, I believe the oil pressure sensor was giving the incorrect reading, wether that was a bad sensor or crappy oil I don’t know. It has potentially worked for me. Please don’t ask me why!!!!

If anything changes in the next couple of days I will let you know.

Crazy electronics design that an oil pressure sensor could cause all that trouble:rolleyes:

Darn not good. Sorry to hear it's back. Has the guru, who is @Saint.V8 seen this yet? I know it's the little sister Ant, but my faith in you is unlimited ;)
 
I am losing the faith

I changed the Brake Light Switch cleared all fault codes. I intended to give the car a good run to test it but got 3 lies and the HDC problem kicked off again. Scanned the codes again and bloody Hell look at this lot.

U0401 - Invalid data received from Engine control module/powertrain control module.

U0402 - Invalid data received from transmission control module.

U0122 - Lost communication with vehicle Dynamic Control Module

U0138 - Lost Communication with All Terrain Control Module

U0184 x Lost communication with Audio Unit

U0428 Invalid data received from Steering Angle Sensor Module

U0132 - Lost communication with Ride Level Control Module

U0126 - Lost communication with Steering Angle Sensor Module

U1A04 - Vehicle speed Can signal

U0155 - Lost communication with instrument Cluster Control Module

P0087 - Fuel rail/system pressure too low

U2023 - Engine Torque Information

B1B01 - Key Transponder

B1C42 - Tailgate Release Switch 2

B1C45 - Front Windscreen Wiper Park Position Switch

There has to be a common denominator, anyone have any idea where to start?
