Hello
I have a 2004 Td6 and had a problem a few months ago when the brake lights and ignition were on when the key and igniton were in position 0. I replaced the ignition switch and it was sorted for a few months.
The problem has returned, I've cleaned the switch and checked the voltages, in position 0, the only wire apart from the live wires that has voltage is the green wire to the unloader relay terminal 15. it has around 2-3v.
I've checked the LCM, the Black 15 pin plug is giving 12v at pin 10, when the black plug is disconnected, the brakes lights are off.
It has no relation to the brake pedal, it is still on when the ABS plug is disconnected, when i remove fuse 4 for the lights, it turns off for a second and comes back on, no change with fuse 9. When the ignition is in position 1 onward, the brake lights behave as they should
I have checked all the fuses, what do you guys recon, are there any inputs to the LCM that i should check or do you think the LCM is faulty?
Thanks

Edit: I cant access the LCM using allcoms and the following faults are shown

Just can back from a short drive, the air suspension lights and the cluster lights stay on after the key is removed showing the P light or a faint handbrake light. This is along with the brake lights on. I checked the resistance of the switch at the different positions and at 0, there is no contact between any two pins.
there is also no central locking, the fob is not working. ill get some more codes
Does anyone know about the green wire to the unloader relay, should it have any voltage on it.
Thanks

If it was to do with the brake light switch, would it not also play up when the car is started. once the ignition is at position 1, the brake lights are off and work as normal with the pedal.

I checked with Allcoms again and have the following code, if anyone can shed any light on the Auxiliary input fuse defective.

Edit:
Just to put all the symptoms together
Brake lights are on when the ignition is at 0, returns to normal when turned to position 1. I have replaced it with a new one around 3 months ago and now the issue is back
The air suspension and instrument cluster remain lit after the key is removed, the P gear indicator and the parking brake (Dimmed) light remain on
I am unable to connect to my LCM through allcoms
I have removed the fuses, checked them and put them back in

I think your LCM is fecked....maybe.....

Only way to tell is to sub in a known OK one.

Although I am not sure if that would cause your other EAS, P parking brake dimmed issues!

I have a LCM on my desk at work, you are welcome to try it!

I suffered exactly the same problem with my car after an earth fault had left it dead for weeks. Once we corrected the faulty earth strap connection and fitted a new start stop battery, I had to disconnect the battery every evening (don't forget the 10 minute wait after turning off the ignition) and lock the car by key then reconnect in the morning. The main issue that lead to disconnecting the battery was the car would not "go to sleep" when the key was removed. This went on for almost two weeks before all the faults cleared away and touch wood its remained that way ever since. Let us know how you get on. Cheers.
Tricky.

I've checked the ground points in both A pillars, I'm using the wiring diagrams for the X5 3.0D, it's shows its connected to the passenger side A pillar ground connector. There was no corrosion and both the connector and the grounding point were clean.
Currently the issues have gone away, another thing is that the alarm usually goes off whenever it starts playing up so at least I'll have some notice to disconnect the battery.

I'll keep you updated

Just checked the codes again with Allcoms
these are the ones remaining, the air suspension code clears as soon as you start driving, the ABS temporary system deactivation has been there for a long time but has no effect on the ABS, the only thing I've noticed is the DSC switch doesn't work.

I'm going to check it in a little while to see if its still going to sleep

The lights are still illuminated, but in a stobe light fashion, on-off-on. The car does sleep and no lights are on the gear indicator.
No lights on the dash, just the brake lights now.

Dampness....???

Also, get RAVE and use the Range Rover wiring diagrams contained therein!

So the brake lights have a signal from the HDC that is independent of the ignition, I'll have a look at voltages at the LCM and get back to you

They don't have any association with the follow me home lights.
So I removed each fuse one by one and had someone check the lights, Fuse 2 is the culprit.
With it removed, the brake lights are off, the air suspension lights are off and they all function again when the ignition is turned back on. I've tried looking in Rave for a fuse diagram but have had no luck, on the diagram in the car it shows it giving power to

Garage door opener
Heated rear window
Rear blower
Rear seat heating
Trailer socket

I'm going to run allcoms again and get some codes with the fuse out

In regards to the steering lock, there are no issues with it and it works absolutely fine.
I've checked the ABS, there was no corrosion on the pins and the lights did not change with it disconnected.
The LCM did have some oxidation inside maybe due to humidity, not damp as the sunroof drains are clear, it was cleaned with contact cleaner, there was no corrosion on the connectors. There are no signs of overheating or any burnt components on the circuit board.
I disconnected the trailer module and reconnected, the lights went off. Just waiting to see if it is a permanent fix, I'll try to communicate with the LCM again and see how that goes.

Then you didn't look in RAVE hard enough.....92 seconds it took me to find it - and that includes opening RAVE....

By Rave, are you referring to the workshop manual or is there a different document/program?

Edit: never mind, I've found it

Spoke too soon, thankfully all the light associated issues have gone and hopefully will stay gone. Now I have an issue with the steering column which is quite common after doing a google search, so I get one turn of the key after reconnecting the battery, I'm going to get some codes in the morning from the column lock.
Until then, Goodnight.

Thank you all for your suggestions and help

So everything seems to be back to normal, I checked the wheel well and apart from a little surface rust on the boot floor, no corrosion on any plugs and all wires looked good.
So to conclude, if this happens to anyone else.
Pull Fuse 2, if that extinguishes the rear brake lights, then have a look at the trailer module or start pulling fuses in the rear fuse bo, I disconnected and reconnected my trailer module and it's been fine after that and hopefully will be for a long while.

Thank you again

I'll start another thread with regards to another issue I have with my passenger door if I can't get anywhere with it myself.

Wow great stuff and once again follow the electrical breadcrumbs to find the solution which more often than we would like is a case of unplug then plug back in (with a little spray of contact cleaner). If only everything was that simple but we should be grateful for the ones that are.
