Hello all,

Sold my 1987 110 to buy my son a 1989 mini. He is now of to uni and I need more comfort so have just bought a low mileage 2004 D2 td5 es auto.

I know I've gone from defender to disco but need the comfort, getting old!

It has a small amount of rust on both rear door window runner uprights, any advice and the ACE light on dash comes on amber whenever it wants but resets when ignition turn off then on again.

Bought it Saturday and on Sunday drove it 1400kms from the Midlands to where I live on the France Spain border near Biarritz. Need to fit cruise control but other than that, awesome car. Sure it will change sooner than later when the ACE packs up completely or some other bit of misfortune happens. But at the moment still in honeymoon period as it has been 36 degrees here today and the climate control was superb.:)

Look forward to many evenings annoying the missus being on the computer when she is watching eastenders.

Long live the green oval

I thought all es came with cruise control , my 1999 es has it, third button down on right below rear wiper button, speed up and down on right of steering wheel,

No, sadly they don't or if they do mines not an es premium as the badge says on the back. that would be about right for me.

I looked into this before I bought a D2 and found on one forum that supposedly all of the later models have all the wiring and socket to retro fit already in place. There is a blanking plate where the switch should be just above the fuel filler release button. Good old fleabay do a kit for @£95 or may even see what it would cost to buy oem parts.

Other thing that I said in original post was about the ace system. Well it has now gone red with a lovely pinging, resets after ignition turned off. My first visit to LR France is coming up or do I buy a home diagnostic system as local garage are great but don't have or really need the software.

give me a boiler to fix I,m fine , I should try harder with the d2, but ace is a hydraulic so my first look would be to make sure fluid levels ok ,

the fluid levels are fine. Checked them yesterday but the fluid looks a bit old. I have driven it around locally, not more than 10 miles or less than 15 minutes and the system seems to be working ok.

A mechanic friend came over yesterday and suggested the liquid change and checking the sensors at each wheel to make sure there is a good connection. He removed the ace system of a D2 a couple of years ago when he bobtailed it so hopefully he can nsort it as I would like to keep the car original.
