Posted on car and classic but thought I’d put an ad here too if that’s ok?
£2500. Nottingham England
98 Tdi ES Auto with 203500miles. Really good clean car that I’ve done 13000 miles in since 2021 and loved but don’t have need for now my Range Rover is finished. It’s not perfect and will have some parts in the boot for the new owner but it’s reliable, will be sold with a fresh 12 month MOT and brand new battery, and would be the perfect basis if you’re after a bit of a project to make a really nice original discovery 1 in a really nice specification. It will have its original wheels with matching Toyo Opencountry tyres back off my Range Rover when it sells.
I had bought it as a stop gap while restoring the Range Rover with plans to finish it off to the same standard once the Range Rover was on the road. Current rented house isn’t ideal for starting off another restoration though, parking is tight for three cars even when they are all mobile and we’d like to buy a house so motivation is low to take it apart at the moment.
In 13k miles the only things I’ve found that don’t work and I haven’t fixed are…
Rear windows are intermittent.
Front fog lights don’t work but the switch lights up - haven’t even checked bulbs.
Heated front screen only has a few working filaments as it’s the original screen from 1998.
Radio buttons by the instrument cluster don’t do what they say.
Gearbox occasionally doesn’t engage torque converter lock up properly - got better since I bought it as the previous owner had just had a fluid change. I’ll change the fluid and filter again before it leaves me.
Everything else works - cruise, aircon, heated seats, sun roofs the lot.
Rust wise I rebuilt the boot floor and rear arches for the last test along with one cill end and body mount (photos in the readers cars section on here) These repairs are all in epoxy primer with the welds unground. I patched the drivers footwell and inner arch. The car will come with a body mount, two front inner wing tops and a rear arch and could also do with a couple of small repairs to the back of the rear arches, the front foot wells, and around the headlight boxes. If I were doing it myself I’d have the engine and dash out to do the front but I’m really picky about rust repairs and think the car is nice enough to deserve doing properly, hence I’m not starting!
That’s that really. Clean, top spec, original basis for a collectible spec d1 which I’ll be sad to see go and need to find another nutter like me to take on.
