As the title says

If I dont have ABS do I have or dont I have traction control?

I can see TC imprinted in the dash but whether I have a bulb behind it only some brummy will know that!

I have just bought a puma and i was under the impression it had TC but im unsure how to test it! First gear and diff lock should the light come on or when theres no traction the light comes on?

Iv read that TC is the abs system applying the brakes to the spinning wheel and sending more power to the other wheels that have grip?

Cheers

you cant have t/c wiithout abs as it uses same system but works by applying brake to spinning wheel or wheels while abs releases brake on locking wheel

cheers for that Mr martin!

So how would I know if I had abs? is it the turret/diaphragm like things mounted on top of the axles?

If it's got ABS, the ABS lamp will come on with the ignition and not go off until you get to 5mph.

Ahhh well that doesnt happen! so thats that then. Is it going to be a massive job to fit ABS & TC?

EDIT

Or are lockers etc a better option?

Nice to hear you got a new defender LR 90. I would go for the diff lock as you can select when you want it on or not. TC is constantly on, you can't turn it off.

Prob is that when you need to gain more traction, you may find yourself in a situation where loss of momentum could screw you over. Therefore, having to stop in order to engage diff lock may still make the situation worse. After all, you can't plan for the unexpected. This is where diff locks fail where traction control excels. I'd say traction control is probably a safer bet than having diff locks if you have to choose between the two.

As for not being able to turn traction control off, well... You're not exactly driving a BMW M5 around the Nurburgring so it doesn't really matter.

Good point RichM, but if your thinking ahead when driving you wouldn't put yourself in that situation.
TRUE TRUE! hmmm i feel gutted now that i didnt make sure it had ABS & TC ahhh well the td5 did just fine in the snow n that didnt have TC or ABS

if you unsure about the spec on it just go in to the parts desk at lr and asked them to tell you the spec of your landy by the reg.

LR 90, have you considered a limited slip diff instead of TC or a locker? Just read it in the LRO mag, as they have done a write up on several lockers and LSD's.
