Right so.. i recently posted about the incredibly loud drumming noise in 5th gear on my 200tdi.. gets abit mind numbing at around 35-37 mph.. definitly not something to do with body vibration or anything the like.. its also slightly there in 4th gear too, and seems to be more promenent when going up a slight incline or when engine is under abit more stress...

Checked the Uj's replaced the beggered one.. and its still there.. also checked the CV joints too.. they seem to be ok..
Checked the wheel bearings and there fine..
greased eveything i can possibly find..

But the Drumming is still there... anyone got any other ideas of what it could be, possibly the diff? how do i check?
Possibly the 4th and 5th cogg beggered, how do i check??

can't afford at the minute to get it into the garage, so any help would be much appreciated, imdetermind to diagnose this problem!

you could remove each prop in turn and give it a test run in diff lock it wqould isolate axle/diffs, b ut 5th gear may well be worn, you can see it with gear box top removed but means lifting seat box or lowering boxes down a few inches

depends on how worn rest of box is ,whether you think bearings are worn enough not to replace etc,can be done with box in truck but better removed ,recon box £400 ish

My 5th gear is much louder than my fourth gear, so much so that i prefer to stay in 4th gear rather go in fourth. Is this a similar problem?
