i have just recently purchased a 2000 reg disco and the TC, ABS and hill decent lights have lit up on the dash and will not go out. land Rover themselves say that is a sensor that needs replacing under or near the front hub! but when qouting a price for the work they said that if the HUB 'crumbles' during the work the cost will be over £200's more.

has any one else had this problem??

thanks

If its the abs wheel sensor , i just fixed one on a peugeot a couple of weeks ago, its a sensor that fits on the hub and picks magnetic senses from a reluctor ring ( ring with teeth on it )

the ring cracks and makes abs cut in very early, the rings can be bought and on the peugeot are heated up and shrunk on

if the discovery has a relucotr ring jack it up and spin the wheel round looking for a crack

I think Island 4x4 do sensors on their own. They are in the region of £40 from memory. They are also on ebay all the time. I had the sensor out of one of my hubs to check for diff oil inside the hub. There is 1 allen bolt to remove and you need to unplug the wiring. Piece of **** really. You might need to take the brake disc and caliper off to get at the sensor but again this is an easy job.

There's some info on here that may help...

www.discovery2.co.uk / Front Disc and Pads

You definitely don't need a new hub, if the sensor only is the fault.

just wanted to post a quick update...
had my abs sensor done at my local dealer and i have to say im impressed with the service im sure it would of been cheaper if i had done it myself but im no expert! in and done in a morning and for under £150......and with a 'gurantee' that if it goes wrong again they'll fix it for free!! hard to believe i know but nice thought anyway! but fingers crossed i wont have to find out.

Ive changed 2 wheel sensors & the shuttle valve in the bottom of the modulator & the buggers still come on! I just ignore them now-the thing stops ok, just may be a problem during MOT, unless you might happen to know a nice MOT man...
