Snow tomorrow and -9C by Tuesday - Telegraph

So it seems that snow is on it's way again, and one of the primary reasons why we have the rangies as without it we'd have been cut off at least three times for 3 weeks plus at a time in the past 2 years. and we're in the home counties, not ruralshire..

i note in the article this...

The Local Government Agency said gritters would be working "around the clock", with many working in tandem with farmers and 4x4 clubs, who have agreed to help shift snow and grit roads.

Now, the same tend to look on 4x4 owners with distaste when not required to help out and the 'public' from time to time tend to cite us as killing the planet.

heck i've towed more stuck cars out of our local roads than i can shake a stick at, i also enrolled with emergency response and spent evening cruising around with HCA's and nurses attending to people that cant get to hospital.

though conversely i've also had the car spat at and keyed for being an earth destroying 4x4 and our transport policy has in the past villified 4x4's by way of tax and fuel duty.

so while it does stick in my craw that sometimes a 4x4 is considered bordering on satanic yet when situations get tough we're called on to do our bit, i still do.

do any other rangie (chelsea tractor) owners feel the same way ?

It gives me a great deal of pleasure to drive past all the eco cars on even the slightest hill, when they are stuck with spinning wheels if that's what you mean. :D:D:D

I agree, I'll help anyone unless they are driving a highly polluting electric or hybrid:D

electric is fine till you factor in the appalling damage done to the planet in producing the batteries they rely on

And the fact that the efficiency of electricity production and transmission is very low, not to mention the hundreds of thousands of years required before nuclear waste degrades to a safe level:eek:

and you have to a consider that the resources in making the car, then destoying it afterwards.. kind of makes a 12 year old plus P38 greener than a six year old prius needing 6k worth of battery replacement or being junked.

i've still got a bloody great key scratch accross my drivers door for driving a 'planet destroyer' though

Which area of Surrey to you live in...????

All we get round here is Bentlys, Range Rovers and Rollers heading to one of the 11 Golf Clubs that are within 6 miles of where I am - although you have to drive through some of the most expensive places to live in the South where I am, I live in the crap bit in the middle of it all:eek:

i'm only a couple of miles from you saint and in a bentley/RR/Roller/porker area too, but the reactions i've had from the eco-warrior brigade tends to be where the right-on, huggy fluff, islington brigade sip lattes and pontificate about wind power.

you'll also find me on 986form too ;)

I'm surprised at this. Certainly in a brand new Range Rover people might think flash git killing the planet and loads of kittens on every drive but I'd of thought with a P38 most people just think it's an old car?

Whenever I give someone a lift to where I live, driving through the Wentworth Estate, past St Georges Hill, through Sunningdale or Ascot, Worplesdon Hill, Chobham, Stoke D'Abornon, Oxshott, Abinger Hammer, Gomshall Mill, the Surrey Hills etc etc, they are all wide eyed and wow....then we get to where I live and its a bit of a let down.....:D

A lottery win will sort that out. Get on with it. :D:D:D
