I recommended to my ex that driving at normal speeds and then panicking and slamming on the brakes as soon as you feel twitching is an effective technique.

Doesn't do your motor a lot of good but I've picked up a fair amount of stone-walling work over the years.

The same wall twice....true story :D

trust me, low box will not give your car any more power. true story.

It doesn't make the engine any more powerful your right but low box does give you more power (torque) at the wheels hence why we all have a low box fitted...

I've got a set of Pirelli Ice & Snow Winter Tyres that I put on the Landy, tyres are crucial for grip, winter tyres are just so much better than A/T or M/T in snow/ice.
Low revs higher gear pulling away.
Low gear low revs down hill.
Brake in straight line only.
Leave plenty of stopping distance.

Remember a heavy 4x4 is harder to stop and steer going down hill, so keep the speed right down

I put winter tyres on all of my cars come the cold months, makes
a huge improvement.

Chains are only necessary in the most extreme conditions if you use winter tyres, when you probably shouldn't be out there driving in the first place. I've got chained because its mandatory to carry them in the alps but since I've used winter tyres I've never needed to put them on.

What you dont do is say to your wife as you pull out the drive "these are fcukin great in the snow love" followed by planting ya right foot firmly into the carpet unleashing all the V8 horses, this let me tell you results in allsorts of nasty wiggles, the odd scream from the wife and a lampost imbedded in the right rear quarter, as you sit and take stock of how impressive that may of looked you feel your wife silently staring at you wondering why she knows you let alone married you and fearing the children may have inherited the stupidity gene.........

Happy memories :)

And yet you know that at some point on the news this year they will be talking about the snow and will cut to some 4x4 on its roof in a ditch where someone believed their 4x4 was impervious to the affects of snow and ice...

Not mine..... ive learnt my lesson :D

We've got chains in all the pick ups at work but only really need to use them when the snow was really deep and we were trying to get off site. The rule was if you needed chains to get on to the site then you turned round and left. Normaly when the snow was that bad the belly plate would ride up on the snow and lift the motor and we would loose all traction and have to start digging the snow from around the front and underneath to drop the motor.

Like it has been said you won't need chains in Britian unless you feel the need to drive to the top of hills in Scotland. A couple of mates need to climb a hill to get out from their home and use the snow socks which they say are great, but they have cars and I just drive up behind them in the Disco.

Snow Socks are only useful as a last resort on fresh snow. Use them on ice and Tarmac and they'll wear out very quickly. Best solution is fitting winter tyres.

I have chains for mine but only as its law in France that you need to carry em and even at that I have never needed to put them on when we have been over there. In the uk good tyres and common sense should get any landy through most situations . As someone else said if you need chains to get somewhere then turn round and go home ImageUploadedByTapatalk1351250737.538409.jpg
