these have website that will tell you what you want , and their prices seem more reasonable than most of the others You need to think about 2 sets with a 4wd , also things need to be pretty extreme to use them as you cant use on clear or even mostly clear road as they will wear quite quick, and you need to keep your speed down 30 is about it HTSH

You only need to fit chains to the front wheels on a 4x4.

Just checking that peeps were awake. 
If you can afford chains for all 4 wheels then no worries. I'm a tight git and can't stretch to two sets.
Whilst on a skiing holiday my sister and her mates fitted snow chains to the hire car and could not understand why they made no difference. A friendly local pointed out that the chains need to be on the driving wheels. :doh:
In fairness the instructions on the tin said that if you only have one set of chains they should be fitted to the front wheels to aid steering. She had a 5 series BMW complete with rear wheel drive.

Rudmatics I had 4 on my 90 rear diff locked solid and I could drive almost anywhere at our local pay and play. PITA but once on fooking excellent! Ask Spyderman how they performed at Whaddon!

Autosocks are fantastic, amazing traction in snow and ice, quick to put on and take off. Good enough for those huge artic' trucks in Colorado(truck drivers were getting killed, due to the time it took to put chains on. Other drivers were wiping them out), so I'm sure they are good enough for a UK winter. I have a set for my wife's x-trail, we live very rurally at the top of a very steep 1.5 mile estate track, which at the moment has around 24"-30" of snow(now compacted). The x-trail with autosocks is managing the track no problem. The traction they provide is quite amazing. The second you're on a good surface take them off. Can't recommend them highly enough.
