Hi, i'm new to landyzone  and i've just bought my first landy. The previous owner did'nt seem to know much about it. Its an E reg 88 but its got a 300tdi engine.

my question: it has a snorkel fitted and piped into the air box, but i'm wondering if any breather pipes need fitting to it i.e engine breathers, fuel tank, axel breathers?

also, if i got it stuck in water, would i be able to use the winch to pull myself out? its a warn 9000.

Matt.

welcome matt .... a more experianced mud blugger type will be along later to let you know .... in the meantime sit yersel down and have a search i'm sure you'll find summat .....

Thanks, i'm having another go at a search now. should i have posted this in the off roading section instead?

no its ok here i think ..... should have said hello maybe at the top , but its ok here ...

You'll need axle & gearbox breevas and wading plugs for the bottom of the bell housing and timing cover. But only put those in when you're wading (or remove them every week or two to let any oil drain out.

If the bloke who owned it before din't know much about it, check yer snork for air tightness. easiest way is wrap a (strong) plastic bag around the mushroom top/goldfish bowl on the end & hold it around tight with your hands. The injun should die. If it dun't you've got a leak. You'll probably be able to hear the hiss from where it's sucking air in anyways.

& yes you can winch yerself out of water. If you have your remote connected ready & a strop from cable to perhaps in through the passenger window (cuz it's a feker hanging over your bonnet trying to oik the cable out in muddy water, unless you like paddling/wading yerself?) it helps.

Feck sight easier to get some uvva bugger to winch you out tho'. ;)

Yeah, we dunt hang around here yer know. If you dun't get an answer it's either because we dun't like yer, it's a stoopid question (tho' that may get you plenny of replies, but no answers) or it's a question that gets asked at least twice a day................so it's best to have a good search first. ;)

Hey thanks for the replies, thats good to know. going to order some plugs now then.
Just got one thing bugging me now. I've found out that the air intake on a 300tdi is on the drivers side. so the snorkel should also be on that side. it was advertised as a 300 but i'm now thinking it isnt. i cant have a look because it has gone in for a service.

I'm not sure now Grippa, i hope its not for show.
Just going to have to wait until i get it back. I'll take some pics of the engine bay when i do. do you know what engine it should have had in originally? its a 1988 -90

Prob' a 300 fitted in it then as the rear discs might have come orf the donor as well. Only very late 200's had rear discs.

When yer git it back remember, we like piccies. ;)
