So I've got a Southdowns snorkel on my discovery. Had it for a couple of months now, been great! And takes a beating! I had some bloke come up to me claiming to know all there is to know about everything, but he did say one thing that made me think... As its a forward facing snorkel, surely rain can go in there? Has this ever caused a problem for anyone?

no, but if you are doing some wading thats really deep , and will cause a big wave over ya bonnet, then turn it to face the other way.

Aint there a sort of one way drain on the base of the main airfilter housing so wouldnt of thought a bit of rain would cause an issue.

A small amount of water through the engine wont do any harm, infact when you get into high end tuning you start using as water mister to condense the air and improve the combustion, its only when you get more water than room in a compressed cylinder you need to worry (hydrolocking). The only other thing to watch out for is the quality of the air filter, a gauze filter is alot better than a paper filter as this can shred up when wet and stop doing its job.

Ah yeah thats good to know, thanks!

I couldn't see any drains when I took the airbox out... There were a few holes that had been silicon'd up by the previous owner though.

Its to the front of the air box just under the output pipe. Its made of soft rubber with a small slit in it to allow water to drip out. Well it is on mine anyway.

I have a Southdown, never caused any issues at all!

I do have it turned sideways, but it's got feckorl to do with rain, there's a lip on the front face so water would have to fly up to get in! Mine's turned to try and stop bushes, trees and foliage from trying to rip the top off!! ;)

Cheers for the info guys. I'll tell him to f**k off if I see him again haha.

Yeah my poor snorkel is always getting abused by bushes, not a bad idea turning it like that.
