going to be gettin a snorkel for my TD5 90, looking at either the new Mantec or a Safari.
Whats ur views on which one is best......

I fitted a Mantec (plastic jobby) last year to my old 90 300tdi.... PM040 Mantec Raised Air Intake - FLEXLITE PLASTIC JOBBY - 300TDI TD5 and PUMA it was very easy to fit. You remove the air intake grill on the side of the wing and fit it. Some minor issues with the instructions at the time.... ****e really, but plenty of tips about to cover it.
The Safari is just as good.... each to there own, but a little more work to fit. I went for the Mantec as it was cheaper, Land Rover fit them on new models (so must be good) and I like the way the air intake sucked air upwards rather than 'gather' it from what ever is coming ahead. I had no problems in very heavy wet snow getting into the air intake.
Some will say make your own, other good makes about as well.... all I can say is what I know about the Mantec. I would buy again if I decide to add one to my latest 110.

:5biagree::5biagree::5biagree: ye what he says, i've just fitted the Mantec to my motor, took just over half an hour, thats with me being far from an expert and with measuring everything 10 times. I'm very happy with it, and think it looks bloomin marvelous.:D:D:D

I got a safari because of the air ram effect. It seems to make the engine run better too. You can turn the top around off road if you need to.

my veiw is use a southdown one stronger and better if you intend to use the car off road unless you only want to pose

My Safari survived this

Hi all,

I would like to buy for my Defender 90 Td5 MY 2002 a
MANTEC Raised Air Intake for Defender – Plastic (1-DPSV)

I have 16" Wolf wheels and BF Goodrich AllTerrain A/T 235/85 R16 tires.
Who can please tell me the maximum height from the ground of the above mentioned air intake 1-DPSV-R/04 at its top ?
I just want to be sure that my Defender can still enter into my garage which is 209 cm. high ...

Thank you in advance.

cannot tell you but ave a look at mine i took it off as it was too tall

Thanks for your help and picture, drewster.

Real problem is to understand how much is taller the mashroom of the snorkel compared to the back upper edge of the roof, which, as far as I know, is the highest point of the vehicle from the ground.

My safari is about that tall but compared to the back of the roof, it is smaller. If the mushroom top detaches, can't you cut a few inches off of the pipe then put the top back on?

Yes, I hope I can do that, khaos ... thanks for your tip.
I just called this morning Mantec but they were not able to give me this information but will write me an email ... too late.
So in the early afternoon, also considering some information I found on the web, I purchased the Mantec snorkel and it will be here with me not before of Wedsnday morning ... then I will learn the sad truth
