Just bought the missus a 03plate TD4 with 90k on clock and no mention of vcu change in history,
I tried the reverse round a corner test and it felt very slightly stiff. although when on ground I could turn it with a garden fork prong and a long bar pushed through gaps in prop,
But we're going to keep it for a while so I thought for the sake of £300 now for a recon is better than £1000's if it breaks later, and peace of mind for the missus,
Found the really good guide on here how to remove vcu,
but when I tried to remove front prop from vcu with hammer and cold chilsel I snapped the cast iron bit on end of prop where it meets vcu (is this called a yoke?),
Question is: can I buy this end bit on it's own any where?, if so is it Land rover only part and any idea how much,
2nd question is: rear props seem a lot cheaper than front ones, Can I fit that bit from a rear prop onto a front prop as they both join vcu,
3rd question: Best site to buy recon vcu as I saw some users have been ripped off by some bloke selling recon vcu's,
4th Question, any other ideas how to split prop from vcu as still got the rear one to do, got it soaking in wd40 at mo,
Any help and advice would be greatly recieved, Thanks, Bill
