Hello

My MOT is due in about a month and one of the studs on one of the turret rings snapped off on me a couple of weeks back, will it fail the MOT if I don't replace it?

probably not. unless the rest of the ring is badly rusted. having said that they dun't cost much to replace.

Just spoken to my baby bother who is an MOT examiner and he said if he spotted it he'd fail it - no questions asked. Its what holds the front spring in place and supports the weight of the motor so effectively its part of the structural suspension mount point.

A bit like a leaf spring hanger which can fail MOT due to surface rust or a slightly worn bush. We all know of motors that have done thousands of miles like this with no problems but with one bolt sheared the spring turret effectively has a 25% reduced support capacity.

I guess you could glue the broken stud back on to fool the examiner but they are cheap and easy to replace so why not?

shant be going there for an mot turret holds shocker in place not the spring
You're not wrong there. On the Defender the spring bears against the turret ring and is not secured by it. The fact is that a broken stud on any suspension component is a fail if its spotted.
