Hi I am hoping someone might be able to help.

I've a 1999 Middle East spec Disco and yesterday on removing the key from the ignition only half of it came out, the other half remaining well and truely in place.

I spoke to my local mechanic and he seemed to think that I could fix it myself. I set to it, removed all the bits and pieces but can see no way of removing the bolt from the ignition system.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions, as I'm at a loss as to how to sort out the problem.

Thanks,
Dan

Did the key section snap so you cant see the other end in the barrel or did the key bit separate from the remote fob section (a common issue)?

U might try to use a very small amount of some very strong super/metal glue on the snapped part of your key, push it back in the ignition, wait a bit than gently remove it....if u're lucky maybe the other half will come out with it......if no joy the only cure is a new ignition.

Hi Dan,
Had exactly the same problem myself. I sorted it by taking off the complete steering lock, just tap the sheer-bolt heads with a cold-chisel to undo them. I used a pointing chisel.
Now split the electrics from the steering lock, & tape your key-fob to the coil-like thingy, that's the thing that recognizes your key-fob.
You can now start the engine with a screwdriver.
I got an automotive locksmith to get the old bit out.
Got a new blank off fleabay , got it cut to my spare key & fitted it to my old key fob, so no re-programming needed.

it is easy to getthe old key out - just a pin holding the lock into the barrel, once you have removed the complete steering lock.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. I've got a spare key so removal of the offending part is all that is required. I'll give it a bash and let you know the outcome.

Thanks again.

Dan
