Really horrible sensation of whole car getting into what seems to be a harmonic wobble when accelerating from say 50-60mph and trying to change lane on motorway. Typically when trying to overtake. No clunk's in other odd noises. Newish tyres. Rear shocks and trailing arms replaced as it felt as if it was coming from rear.
Not like a wheel balance or engine vibration more as if you were towing and got into a snaking situation. Rather scary!
Any ideas as this has me really foxed? Thanks
 
Get some diagnostic on the FL see if any codes come up which may show that drive train as lost communication intermittently, rear diff locking up maybe?

I'd agree if it were going round corners - would changing lane be enough of a 'turn'?

Tends to be a 'thumping' as well rather than 'harmonic wobble'.
 
Interesting as we thought it must be front wishbones and so garage ordered a pair. He was slightly sceptical that this was the cause as he previously carefully checked for play, (wheels grounded as well as free) but could only find very little play. His MOT inspector confirmed that it would not even count as an advisory.
Just as he was about to fit them he noticed wheel alignment seemed way off, so much so that it was noticeable by eye. He will now send car off for specialist 4 wheel alignment before doing anything else. It will be really interesting to see outcome and I will certainly report back. It sort of makes sense as both rear shocks and arms have recently been replaced and I think it may have started since then, but couldn't be certain.

If it only started when the rear shocks and arms were replaced then that should've given you a pointer, also the four wheel alignment should have been done after the replacements of the above, the rear needs to be aligned first before the front can be dealt with.
 
Just had 4 wheel alignment checked and adjusted. Nearside front was out but all others ok. Reset and all now checked and within limits. Bad news is pulling to right is just the same under acceleration from say 40mph. It is a very disconcerting feeling.
Should we now revert to previous plan and replace both front wishbones or could it be anything else? Mechanic did previously check them and although found some play did not think this was the cause. To recap, both rear shocks and arms have already been replaced.
Really foxed by this.
 
Does it definitely have a working AWD system? Torque steer is quite evident if there's no rear drive on acceleration.
