Yes ATF is the flushing treatment of choice for me..

used it in many engines and never had an issue..

Always done it's job.

very good as i said for cleaning out tappets.

As its still an oil and not a weird solvent it does no damage while it works.
:D
The eurobox is due an oil change this year, last one before it goes to the big scrap yard in the sky I reckons, might give the ATF a whirl in it as is has a noisy tappet when cold :(

It's a good trick.

Give it a whirl.

Drop a litre of oil out the sump and add a litre of ATF leave her running with a few good hard rev's

In bad engines you might have to do this 2 times maybe 3 but it does work wonders. :D

This i just stumbled across,

Ignore most of it and concentrate on the ATF!! ;)

it has worked for me many a time its pretty legitimate . ;)

This business of carbon treatments that shove jollop in the intake and run your engine for a while... are they just snake oil?
It's snake oil. An "Italian" tune up is very affective at cleaning the engine, more so if you use a decent fuel treatment in the tank too.
I would just like to say I had it done on my truck... absolute nonsense, no difference in anything at all.

That's what I'd expect to see. I'm sure any good reports on these treatments are posted by the proprietors of the businesses doing the treatments.

How long do you run the engine for .

I ran mine for around 2 hrs, lots of it was moving a 4tonne trailer around a field so plenty of load on the motor

Variying RPM's.

As for on the road i'd take it for a good drive 2-300 miles should do it, so put a tank of fuel through it. ;)

Drain it while hot be careful to not burn ya self and leave it draining for half an hour all the **** will drain out..

ATF is an oil not a weird ass cheap solvent like the stuff on the shelves so it won't do yer motor any harm..

Just make sure you drain a litre of oil out the sump before adding the ATF as to not overfull the motor ;)

I forget what you call the process, they have various names and promise the earth in terms of improved mpg and power.

I would just like to say I had it done on my truck... absolute nonsense, no difference in anything at all. I read reviews from folk who make claims that it’s thenbest thing since sliced bread but I reckon it’s just the emperor’s new clothes, they’ve shelled out a load of dosh and don’t want to appear stoopid (like me).
If yer motors heavily gunged up yer'll probably need the same process done 3 or 4 times fer it to show signs of improvement and the eggtra +40bhp. ;)

In my V8, I've tried Marvel Mystery Oil, SeaFoam, Berryman's, BG and a mixture of 2 parts diesel/1 part petrol (I haven't tried the water method) to clean out the carbon. I borscoped the engine afterwards and all of these solvents showed some to little results in removing the carbon.

If you really want to clean 'em up correctly, take off the heads and exhaust and spray some crushed walnut shells down 'em.
Sorted...
