Hi, hope you can help.
Driving home, my battery light started flickering on my dash. I wasn't sure if it was because I'd driven through a huge puddle and soaked the engine. There was a faint smell of burning too.
I decided to take it to the garage but by the time I was a mile from the house the battery light was solidly on and there was quite a lot of smoke coming from under the bonnet with a strong burning smell.

Any ideas muchly appreciated!!!

Does sound like the alternator's cooked, but at least your doors didn't fall off.

Don't post messages containing faults and water in the Freelander section - its fuel to the Tratter boys/girls - they love it.
(Where's the "Its the Rules" icon gone!)
