i have noticed that when i put the auto box on our 06 td4 into reverse from drive we get a noticable puff of black smoke from the exhaust...although 19 months old the car has only done 12500 miles...i've booted it in neutral, drive and reverse but nothing..only seems to happen when you go from D to R...has anybody else experienced this or have any idea's?

thanks

cant go into R from D without going through N. When engine is in N, no load, then when you go into R, it loads engine slightly, so engine revs have to increase which is achieved by pumping in more fuel. Sounds as if something is not quite right. I have Td4 Auto, with 48k on clock, and it doen't do this. (I can't see out rear window as it's a commercial, so I pay a LOT of attention to door mirrors when engaging reverse, and I've never noticed this)

Or am I talking nonsense again

this response came from another forum but might be of help to somebody

"one of the 1st signs of blocked/restricted crankcase breather filter is a a puff of black smoke on autos when selecting reverse. filter part number LLJ500010, if it is left blocked for a time turbo damage will occur - but is a little known fault, we have seen motors that have had turbos and ecus on them but all that was wrong was the fillter was resticted."
