 Hi,

01 Td 4 Freelander, Just serviced , found that intercooler hose was damaged, this was replaced , howerver the wagon is bleching blue smoke on start up and when ideling , Smoke stops when the wagon is floored and their is no loss of power.
Can any one point me in which direction to look for the possible causes.

Cheers

Hi, just a few things to check
1. Check the engine oil level if it's overfilled it'll smoke.
2. With engine running remove the dipstick if oil comes back up the tube then theres some back pressure which probably means the valve press breather may be blocked It's on the top of the engine between the air filter and injectors (plastic assembly with 4 allen studs about £25)
3. Check all the vaccuum pipes are connected and in good fettle.I recently had problems with smoke but also had a loss in power turned out to be the vaccuum pipe down to the tutbo had chafed at the back of a clip no visible untill I started messing around removing this that and the other.
4. Make sure all the hose clips have been properly tightened cause if not she'll bleed air which'll cause smoke.
Hope this gives you some pointers & I'm sure some of the experience available on here will be able to sort you out.

hi horse . . .run it for a bit, sometimes when the hoses go ya git er lot of oil contamination that still burns orft , but should not last longer than 100 miles, if still belchin then another problem. . .:)

Cheers ,

Done the trick , removed the cover and found the filter completly blocked , i then cleaned the filter to get me over the weekend and the results were instant, no more smoke. I have since purchased a new filter and have fitted it already .

It dangles down't back of yer engine ,above the turbo (or there abouts)
looks just like an in-line fuel filter !

It's the 'thing' closest to the airfilter. (With the yellow arrow and # 1 on it).

Hi there,

Is there supposed to be a tube on both ends of the filter?, I was checking mine and there is only a tube on the upper end, the bottom end is open to the atmosphere!

Thanks,

P.S. My TD4 had been running perfect, but suddenly started smoking heavy black smoke and loosing power yesterday. Same problem?
