Hi guys

had the defender about 5 months now and its started to get quite smokey when started from cold not really blue but bluish/whitish and a distinct mis fire .
Will continue to smoke when standing idle but completely disappears in under a minute when driving away and mis disappears when warm.

Then if the car is warm no smoke at all on start up and the mis is gone.

Back ground its a 2008 2.4 TDCI with a twisted remap 21,000 miles on the clock was an ex RAF base car.

Not using any oil albeit the oil is jet black.

Any thought welcome Thanks

I had an issue starting my old P38 that was glow plugs but that meant it was hard to start.

This starts on the button evry time.

What are they like to change or inspect

Nothing to do with glow plugs! Check your filters first ( air and fuel ). Start with the simple things first.

Try a bit of diesel-specific engine treatment too. Forte type stuff. This is another first before worrying too much!

So popped in some forte advanced diesel fuel treatment and turbo cleaner come as a twin pack loaded the car up with 40 ltrs of dielsel and dumped both bottles into the tank.

OK 3/4 way through the treated fuel and it appears cleaner no black soot coming out of the exhaust ( when holding some paper against it) but still a bit smokey bluey white

Still only when cold and then as soon as driving for 30 seconds its all clear and totally clear when its warm.

I have a new air filter will swap that over.

Swapped air filter and no real difference.

Looking at it it seems to be clear on start up then about 5-10 seconds of running starts smoking if that gives any more clues?
