Hi all, have a td4 sport with about 140k miles.
After driving around 70mph after a bit I get black smoke and a clicking/mechanical sound from the injectors whenever I accelerate. If I stay at 70 the engine eventually cuts out.
I've checked for splits in the pipes and there fine.
I'm thinking some kind of valve or sensor to do with the turbo or fuel system?

Any ideas what it could be?

And do I take it to a land rover/4x4 specialist or a diesel engine specialist?

And anyone know any good people around Solihull/Birmingham?

Thanks guys.

Clicking or rasping noise from the injectors normally means one or more are faulty.....mine would do it, though I was able to rev the engine by blipping the throttle which would thow out a load of smoke and then clear it......for a while until one went totally fubar causing the engine to cut out .
If you have a Ron box or other tuning box on the engine......turn it off as it only exaggerates the problem.
Running a leak back test should point out which injector is playing up

could the injector wiring harness cause this issue, as i believe there is an updated version ??

dont know if vaccum hoses could cause this issue as I like others have replaced vaccum hoses that have got holes in them , i recently replaced the one from the turbo that runs right across the engine as that had perished

Sounds like injectors on way out.

Mine sounded like pinking in a petrol engine. Two new injectors and all was fine.
