Been playing with Elizabeth today (1971 2A). So went to turn her over and i get smoke (old grease burning) and heat.

I get smoke from points 1 & 2 (throttle bar links) and the bar (number 3) heats up. Also the manual throttle cable get a little warm too (blue line number 4). We cannot see any live wires earthing, it does not get warm when ignition is on or when glowing plugs. It just seems to do it when cranking.

Any ideas guys

Yes, earth currents flowing through the throttle rods. There might be an earth strap from the starter to the chassis, there should be one from the battery to the chassis. Clean and remake all the connections or run a new one from the battery to the block and from the battery to the chassis. Check the starter motor bolts are tight.

Cheers guys, never got round to starting it anyway, ended up wonder why no fuel was coming through. So lift pump was removed, cleaned diaphragm. Then found a split fuel pipe, started to fix and still would not prime. Took fuel pipe from tank to find it gunked up (no fuel coming up), got that all cleaned then decided to piece 2 pumps together to make 1. Will this pump be ok for diesel ?

if it works on diesel it work on petrol same set up ,same plate to bolt to and same cam on later engines

As said in previous posts you have a earth problem in severe cases can course bulkhead fires as the engine earth's through the stop cable and burns it out looking at you photos you have a slightly different throttle linkage using bars instead of cable's (Which makes you lucky) I had it happen on one of mine the earth strap from the starter motor to the chassis had worn through.
The remedy to this and what I have done ever since is (even on petrols) is to either run extra earth 's from the engine to the chassis or have two heavy duty earth leads from the battery one directly to the block and one to the chassis.

Hope this Helps

Cheers guys, As i thought and as you have said. It was the earth's. Any way got them sorted, fitted the new lift pump. Now the problem.

I have fuel in the spaceship on the pump (glass filter), i have fuel at the filter, and down to the pump numbered as 1 & 2, i also have fuel at all the rail points like number 3. But i dont have fuel coming out of the pump (4,5,6 & 7) to the injectors (8,9 &10)

Any ideas ????????????

i was talking to my mate jeff and he says tighten it all up the pressure of cranking should draw it in to the pots as it starts the trying to start then bleed off :)
