I have a SIII 1973 2.2 lt petrol, recently I've been getting a strong smell of petrol as I'm driving her. I've looked underneath and there's no sign of any obvious leaks, anyone got any suggestions?

leak at or near carb.. the heat from injun could evaporate it before you have a chance to see where its coming from. best yer sort it before yer go bang.. most likely yer little bit of rubber hose between steel pipe and carb inlet

My swb has the fuel tank under the drivers seat and it stank of petrol, especially when it had just had some more fuel put in it. Had a look under the drivers seat and found that some previous owner had replaced the tank breather hose with a piece of green garden hose. Instead of attaching this to the fuel filler pipe, it terminated inside the truck cab behind the seat backs so all the fumes from the tank were where you had to sit. I guess the previous owner wasn't a smoker.

Slob was spot on, there was a leak from the carb to the metal pipe via a small rubber hose was leaking onto the engine! I'm surprised the rubber perished so quickly as the engine was recently reconditioned.
