Hi there. i´m from Portugal, sorry my english.

I bought in ebay UK one 3.9i engine for make one small restoration on it and extracte some extra power.
What do you suggests to upgrade / change?
I´m thinking:

head area:

- take off the heads, change all gasket and seals
- new rocker shafts
- new camshaft (Piper cams)
- Complete Standard timing chain set.C
omplete set of 16 hydraulic Genuine standard tappets.
( Land Range Rover V8 Morgan TVR Marcos Piper Camshaft on eBay (end time 20-May-10 09:22:04 BST) )

Crankshaft area:
- new main bearins
- new oil pump

Exhaust:
- new exhaust in stainless steel with 2.75", with Borla Muffler

Do you suggests more things to do in my 3.9i V8 engine? which are the "key points" /most important changes to make in one V8 engine?

I have a RANGE ROVER 3.9i V8.
regards

Welcome to the forum! Don't worry about your English, there are a few UK forum members that have a worse problem! I'm not an engine builder myself but I'm sure you will receive some advice soon, today tends to be a quiet one for postings.

hi what i do to my engine's i build is have the crank rods and pistons balanced along with the crank pulley and flywheel
have the block decked and pressure tested to ensure the linners are good if they fail fit a set of top hat linners have the heads pressure skimed and crack tested.
the heads i offer either standard valves with 3 angle seats
3 angle seats and belled out chanmbers just behind the valves
3 angle seats and full ported heads with mached ports on the inlet and echaust manifold
medium valve with all the above will yeild average 25-30 bhp
use a piper 270I cam for good power use genuine cam train parts and genuine gaskets

Thank you for the answers.
Norseman thank you for the wellcome ;) I think you can understand my english...at least i try...:)

thank you. it´s what i will make. I don´t want make a FULL restoration...only a small revision because my acttual V8 engine makes a strange noise. (TAC TAC TAC in idle when it is hot):doh:
i will change the piston rings too and i think is enough.

More suggestions are welcome

I don’t know if you can on these but a re-map of the ECU might be worthwhile.
Oh and for your old engine its probly ur rockers or somthing around there.. if its botom end just bearings.

if catalytic converters removed change the fuel tune resistor to beige(arab spec non cat) if I remember correctly.
standard uk
green -nomal non cat
white- uk normal cat

Ecu can also have plug in upgrade chip tornado or similar.

where is that resistor? , I have always wondered.

Do you have to do anything else to remove cats other than chnage that?

I dont have cats on my landy(s) but just wondered.

Resistor is under the drivers seat usually taped to the EFI wiring loom and NO I don't think you need to do anything else to run without cats but I believe running with the oxy sensors (lamda sensors) is better because it enables the ECU to use the cat map and adjust fuel mixture more accurately. In non-cat mode the ECU doesn't look for the oxy sensor input and just winds the stepper in and out to achieve stable idle without adjusting the injector pulse to reduce or increase the fuel mixture (or something like that!)

I think it sounds lovely, not too aggressive - i think the land rover spec engine would suit a blower more than a turbo, no need to rev too high.

Good luck, I look forward to the build :)
