thanks, I've yet to get round to removing them, one thing I would say is since fitting my gearbox I have gone through the ignition system and I would like to point out as others have a knackered vacuum advance or seized mechanical advance weights will give sluggish performance and terrible fuel consumption.

In my case it involved timing the engine and removing the lucas distributor, stripping it. doses of ease it spray to free and remove crap from weights and shafts. then spray grease to lube it as it appeared all pressed metal and shaft had a pressed over end.
rebuild making sure the hall effect sensor has an air gap and time up with strobe.

result is it now goes like buggery after timing it up
 
There's some good information in this thread. I'm picking up my 110 3.5 V8 LPG on Sunday, I'm slowly reading through the V8 threads for hints, definitely learned from this one! :)
 
and the other point here is pnce you play with the gas system your compliance cert is non and void so to is the cars insurance!!!
with restrictors in front of the carbs you will never achive the power it can produce on petrol without the restrictors!
further more if your engine is over 70,000 miles with no history you will proberly have a worn cam sticking vac unit on the dissy too
 
I have a 1988 factory fit V8 (carb) with LPG.

Realistically, they are not as powerful as you might imagine, the advice given about using the low end torque is spot on.

Couple of thoughts. Has the LPG side been serviced, not sure what is done but have been told a few times it must be done. My wagon certainly ran better afterwards.

When the service was done, the question given to me was; do I want it setup for LPG or Petrol. I chose LPG. It runs virtually the same on LPG as petrol, only difference is on very steep hills at motorway speeds.

I always start mine on LPG. I've checked this with two installers who gave me the same advice. It's OK to start on LPG if it can (possibly will not in cold weather), but, let the car run for a minute or so before pulling away. The lack of temperature in the engine can cause early stalling - I have never had the problem myself though.
