my discovery 1 automatic slows right down going up hill before dropping back to another gear can someone help me with this problem as i think this is not right as it should change abit earlier

So does mine, think it might have summat to do with it weighing in at over 2 1/2 ton if it dont change down soon enough then hit the kick down

Found the same when towin the 'van (although mines a maunual)
Changed the injectors approx £150-00
Problem resolved.

manuals don't have a kick down... you have to use the big stick in the middle near the handbrake...

mine is the same and at motorway speeds wont kick down either as it is going too fast for 3rd gear.. I would really like it to change down sooner but it doesn't so I just make sure I'm out of the outside lane for steep hills and leave 2 and a half minutes earlier....

Kickdown may not be correctly adjusted, or may not be working at all. Get it checked?

Manually change the auto box down DER!!!!! Just as you hit or drop to 2000rpm then drop the auto to 3rd ! in fact drop it at 2400rpm and you will keep the revs up dont scream along at 3700 but keep it around 3100 .
To be honest unless you are pulling somthing i think there is somthing wrong as i can go UP a 1:9 Hill at 55 in Auto no probs.

Depending on the load on the engine, an auto box will change down into third for you just by pressing on the accelerator peddle a bit harder.

1:9 hill that would be 90 in a V8 auto no probs, as long as it was long enough. I never slow down going up a hill.

I only notice when towing the caravan really, it drops to about 1500 revs before it kicks down... not tied pullingit into thrid, might give that a go next time... it's what I do downhill so makes sense uphill as well..

In standard trim an auto Tdi300 Disco weighs in at 2100kgs with only 111 or 120bhp (EDC models) so they are very under-powered by comparison to an ordinary family car.

Performance expectations therefore should be significantly lower than an average Model etc., however if it were me I should want to ensure that she is running correctly before coming to any sweeping conclusions.

When did you last change her air filter, engine oil & filter, fuel filter? Have you de-EGR'd & de-Catted the vehicle?

These things can make an enormous difference to the efficient running of a diesel-engined Disco.

I've just come back from a trip to Morocco (full info will follow!!) driving in mountains and used third gear lots, it really helps.

Cheers

Agree with Biglad a good service does wonders, manually change auto, keep to motorways no mahooosive hills did the M5 the other day pulling instead of the a23 saved Qtr tank diesel and no stress.

well I went out yesterday with the cruise control on and at 75mph it took every motorway hill without slowing down at all.. at 75mph without the cruise it was slowing down so either I am doing something wrong or the kick down cable needs adjusting - give me sommat to do this weekend eh.. sparkyjosh did you get yours sorted?
