Good evening. I am looking for a low (ish) price discovery for occasional use. An independent Range Rover dealer friend has a 2007, 2 owner car with full history for sale. He has used it for a year as a courtesy car. It’s a manual with 175k on the clock. I can have it at trade price. The only issue is a very sloppy gear selector. All the gears can be selected and with practice, it is fine. However, is this common? Is there a kit to fix it? I am well used to preventative maintenance and running costs but would this be a mad purchase?
Many thanks for any advice.

Many thanks, it’s all of the gears. Everything feels very very sloppy. I assume that at this mileage the wear on the linkages has taken its toll. I have read your buyers guide this evening. I will check the belts and oil pump cover. Should this not have been done, I assume £1000 for the belts but what price for the oil cover?
Many many thanks
Charles.

Ur very welcome

Belts should be done every 7 x years or 105;000 miles, which ever comes first , alas don’t know if they've done the oil pump , allow £200 for that , I had my water pump changed as well at the same time seeing it was all apart

So ur belts I would assume to have been done in 2014 and due again 2021 , but indeed make sure that oil pump cover has been replaced, if they fail can destroy the engine

Sounds like the gear linkage needs a closer look to see what’s worn

£1000 for the belts? Might as well get a new transmission if that's what its part of?

Hi

Nothing to do with the transmission , talking about the front and rear timing belts inc the oil pump cover
I paid about 150 quid or so for my timing belt I think. Rear timing belt? A timing belt is just one belt I thought?

D3 has the TDV6 engine , so has a few belts

Rear belt controls the HPFP

Hi mate

Is off the D3 forum, I’ll see if I can find out some more details, are u thinking it’s a TDV8 instead

No I think you are right I can see it now, it was the top fan belt idler pulley putting me off, but the mounting hole is visible under and to the left of the pics right hand cam pulley, I reckon the idler in the middle is just for the stirpped/show engine.

That’s a relief as I was getting concerned I had posted the wrong engine , lol
