I dont have a problem selecting gears but its like 'stirring a bowl of porridge' with the gear stick.
Is there a clip or somthing that will tighten up the gear change and make it less sloppy?

Have a look on this site, for your problem, if like mine the rubber bushes had started to go on the selector, unfortunatly no longer available (thanks Mr Blair).

The solution is to use a steering universal joint and modify the end of the selector (do a search) some one posted a photo of the mod.

I did the same on my rover 220 - dont know if the linkage is similar (same box) but here are the instructions.....
