Hi guys I've been drafted into help a local club, it will consist mainly towing vehicles out of a rather muddy field.. Do I use diff lock all the time as the ground is very wek or will this hurt my transmission. Pretty sure I know the answer but as per normal there's a expert of site who knows it but drives a micra

As long as the ground is slippy enough to let the wheels spin a bit it won't wind the transfer box up running in diff lock . we pull the shoot trailer 4 or 5 miles down a muddy track and the 90 is in diff all the way down and back . just try not to stamp on the go pedal too hard and shell be fine

Yes, diff lock on, gentle right foot, highest gear possible but avoiding stalling or clutch slipping.
I find low 2nd on tickover very effective for that sort of thing.

Thanks chaps did my bit but ended up getting a tractor and 6x6 in. I'm convinced my diff lock isn't working properly but that's another storey

I have found in every single situation where I have been stuck, that no matter what gear I'm in, and regardless of difflock, my tire pressures make a more significant difference as to whether I get out.

I've been in places where difflock and low range 2nd has no effect and I'm just digging ruts.

Drop the tires 10-15psi, and hey presto, out I drive. Not having an onboard compressor has undoubtedly led to badly damaged sidewalls on previous vehicles on the way to a garage though! And I melted one of those £10 maplin cigarette lighter compressors in about 5 minutes!

+1
Watching everyone struggle round my estate last week in the snow. Drop 8-10psi out of my car tyres and drive round with no problems.
