How would I get a 3 phase Bradbury Liftmaster 3 working correctly and safely from a robust domestic single phase supply?

Easiest way would be to change the 3 phase electric motor(s) to 1 phase 240V versions.

no..dont be silly..motor would not work..

unless....

its capable of working on single phase..open up junction box on motor and see if winding configeration can be changed..(will be a dia there)

or.....one buys a 1 to 3 phase converter..****e loads of money though..

or change the motor..

change the motor
or run on a three phase genny

Plenty of phase converters available to run three phase motors on single phase, google it. No three phase motor tha I'm aware of will run satisfactorily on single phase.

Lots of older properties have 3 phase electricity coming in but only a single phase connected, it's worth having a (careful) look, you might save yourself some money if this is the case as you would only require a new cable to the ramp

Plus a new meter and a higher standing charge unless you are sugesting an illegal connection. Three phase is not generally approved for domestic installations these days.

3 phase meter fitted in the garage and although you pay extra it would work out cheaper than a converter or new motor.

I tried getting a quote for having 3 phase installed, I have a 2 post lift and a workshop full of 3 phase wood work machinery, it ended up cheaper to just buy a silent 3phase genny and run it on red diesel, 1st one I bought cheap on ebay just to see how I got on with the idea, it was 75kva so would run a small country but the engine was big, old, smokey and loud (I don't get on with my neighbours anymore!!! I also don't care ) after one of the pistons and conrods decided it wanted to come out into the daylight through the side of the block.... scary but impressive! I managed to find a silent 10kva for £1500 locally, plenty of choice on ebay for smaller ones usually, if you are clever with wiring or pay someone it can be wired to auto start when the lift calls for power so no real problem with having to go start it.

I believe some 3 phase motors are able to run on either 240 or 3 phase, the one on my lift says 240/3phase I had my sparky look to see if what I was reading was right and he said "yeah I will do that for you one day, easy job will just run a bit slower as less power " I said get on with it....... I'm still running the genny for it 2 years later!!!

The best way to do it is to fit a new single phase motor,my 4 post lift was a refurbished Laycock 4 post,fitted with a new single phase motor.Works a treat,has no problems lifting RRS's,D3's and L322's - they are HEAVY.
One of the local garages I do diagnostic work for has exactly the same ramp with a 3 phase converter,its very slow and struggles with heaver LR's.
Another garage I do stuff for has a Genny to run the ramp,what a pain in the arse that is,having to go out and start it to use the ramp,then how long do you leave it running for,cos you might need to go up or down etc.
I spent a great deal of time looking at and using other peoples ramps to help decide which was the best deal,if you already have the 4 poster then getting a single phase motor makes most sense.And you'll wonder how you ever managed without it......
