Mine does it too. I cleaned the oil out of the RED ECU plug last week using brake cleaner and it seemed to smooth out. However it came back, I checked the ECU again and sure enough there was more oil in the plug. Cleaned it out again and it's remained clean. Trouble is, it still vibrates at around 1800-2200rpm.
This got me thinking....have any of you done the injector harness change??
I've made a small amount of progress.
One independent (non-LR), claimed that he'd come across this before and knew exactly what it was! Proclaimed before he'd even seen it, that it would be handbrake related.
When he saw the car, it was warm, so was doing it less than it otherwise might - but mine still does it in the exact same rev range (1800 - 2300) in every gear. I don't know why its in every gear in the exact same rev range, but it is. It's easy to replicate, and will happily make the same noise whilst sitting stationary in neutral or park on a garage forecourt and revving the throttle.
Anyway - this mechanic said watch this, and revved the engine to the rev range and got to make the rattle. He then held it in the rev range and gently lifted up the hnadbrake - lo and behold, noise disappeared.....
As soon as the handbrake lever went down again, the rattle returned.
He claimed it was the handbrake shoes, and that the solution was to put in a new set of shoes and backing plate on the handbrake assembly. I was sceptical, but it's the closest I've come to a fecking solution so far!
At another garage when the ACE pipes were being done, the counter weights that sit just behind the handbrake assembly were found to be loose. These were tightened up and this seemed to fix it for a short while, but after 15 mins of driving, it was straight back again. Bugger!
Other garage's have just drawn a blank reaction - such as:
- Have you checked the downpipe?
- ACE pipe rattle?
- Exhaust pipe rattle?
blah, blah blah - all of which were checked and claimed as fine.
Any thoughts from anyone on the liklihood of it being the handbrake shoes and backing plate?
