i have a slight misfire when reving me v8, it is very slight, but drives ok revs up ok. i know it can be loads of different reasons, i have changed plugs its had a service but i not changed the leads it dont use any water, no signs of head gasket or liners, just yet. lol. i dont know how old the leads r, has anyone had the some problem and is there a way of checking out what it could b and if its the leads which one?????

Wait until it gets dark and then open the hood and look at the leads for signs of arcing. You will need to look closely if the misfire is slight. Might be worth a new set of leads in any case. I replaced mine with OEM leads and it made a hell of a difference.

just had a look at me leads on me car and they r a 7mm iso 3808, sound crap to me. anyone no if they r any good and whats best recommended also how the hell do u change the leads there is no room at the back of the engine with it been the later engine.

ISO 3808 is just the Standard they are made too....

I always thought they were menat to be 8mm, but I could be wrong....

If you have the cash, Magnecor make good leads....as do Bosch....

Lead changing is best done one at a time, and also route them carefully so they don't cross if you can help it, as a crossed lead can cause a crossfire between plugs....

ya mate i just red up that the magnecor 8mm r good stuff so i am going to get some. good fun changing them lol

Try these from island.... V8 HIGH PERFORMANCE HT LEAD SET 98-02 HLS103XP Island 4x4 - Specialists in Land Rover and Range Rover Parts and accessories for all models. UK and worldwide mail order..

When you change them do them one at a time. It is possible to get your hand round the back of the coil. It takes a few tries but after a while you will have lost sufficient skin to make your hands fit... Now if you have LPG then that is a whole different world of pain..:D

lol ya mate i have lpg, going to be fun, i think i will get my 2 year old lad change them he has small hands. lol

How can I check the cam is worn? Just incase that's me problem with out pulling engine apart. Compression test may b ?

If your changing the leads, go a bit further and take the coils off and inspect for tracking.the plenum ces off quite easily, leave the throttle cables connected and just unbolt the housing. Search for my post "gassed up" for a walkthrough of how to do this.

Care to share the logic tree you are following that gets you from HT leads to camshaft in one step...:)

well i thought i would check to see if that could be a problem i am trying to eliminate things, cus its dun 100 tho miles. not sure how long cam lasts. it is probably leads, but my luck no its not.lol

Do a compression test before anything else, its easy a quick to do. You can pick up a compression tester at any good auto store.

Most Compression testers will have a Green Zone to indicate the optimum pressure....

What your interested in seeing is if there is a difference between readings in different cylinders....

Two adjacent low cylinders could indicate HGF betwwen the two cylinders....
If one reading is low, dribble a teaspoon of oil into the cylinder via the Spark Plug Hole, if the reading rises, could be worn piston rings, if it stays the same could be HGF of Valve seal or Valve Stem Seal.
