I know this might come a cross a bit strange but I've seriously been considering trying to do something with my 110 county so that me and the missus can sleep in the back!

It's nothing to do with the recession or any dodgy fetishes, honest!

We go camping as much as possible over the summer months but I wondered if anyone had done any conversions to their landy's so they can use them a bit like a VW camper type thing??!

I was thinking about taking the back seats out and trying to fit a fold up bed of some sort and maybe a second battery and a small heater for warmth!

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Look round for an idea or two...

I've slept in a Series 3 for 6 weeks whilst working away, just threw a airbed in the back after taking the seats out but I wouldn't recommended it. Depends how old you are as to the comfort you'll settle for. ;)
 
I'd say;

Throw a piece of sheet metal across the rear benches and then dump a mattress on top

Insulate the defender with some adhesive foam and carpet and then use a 12 volt heater from the cig lighter to heat it up…………. or create a little fireproof compartment in the back and set up a gas stove for cooking and heating


For extra headroom you could get some custom made panels to lift the roof up or chop it and fit a tent to the top of the roof like the campers have





Orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. just buy the conversion kit
 
Sheepskins aplenty and no sleeping bag, that gives me an idea.

I'm going to line my truck cab roof with the old sheepskin I've got and get a couple of my seats in winter
 
were are you based? i have a very well kitted out 110 you could have a look at for ideas.

About 13 years ago I used to upset the breakdown guys in Gordano services by parking up and tieing a hammock between my truck and one of the trees and going to sleep. They used to phone my control room up and moan.:p:p:p
 
Heres my attempt that i quickly made for a trip wales we did for some laning. 2 fence posts going across the tub to support the ply. Second row seats backs folded down, 2 sheets of cut ply across the top...simple and was surprisingly comfortable!

Cheers for all the suggestions people!

I didn't think about simply putting a a big bit of wood/metal in the bad and a mattress! Might give that a go as it would be super cheap and a quick job for a few weekends away in the snowy months!
 
You should try and sleep in a 90, now thats intresting with being 6 foot and lots of condensation with it being a county :eek:

works a treat, backrest can be attached to lower part to make a 1-metre bed (making it 1mx1.75m). Matress is about 3 inches thick. VERY comfy, and if I'm travelling alone the bed as is (0.5m) is enough for me, or me and the dog if the missus decides to stay at the hotel (well, with the child anyway).

It's basically a steel frame with some hinges, and an ikea matress cut up... If needed I do have the plans somewhere still methinks.

Iv slept in my 90 plenty of times. A bit of plywood rests on the dash, centre and rear bulkheads :) works a treat and quite comfortable :D
