I have read and reread the step by step instructions for swapping a 200TDi in for a 2.5NA motor. I'm doing the swap with a couple of buds this weekend and I want to have all my ducks in a row. Nowhere in the step by step does it mention a sealant between the engine and the transmission but the Haynes manual mentions it.
Yes? No? Hylomar? Silicone instant gasket? RTV?

Anything else that you would care to share?

Cheers,
Dave

I'm going to be doing the swap next year at some point mate but from what I've read there doesn't seem to be anywhere I've seen that would do this. Not read the haynes manual though, however I don't think I'll be doing it. Every gearbox I've ever taken off has never had any sealant around it.
Perhaps someone else can shed some light?

If you mean between the engine block and the flywheel housing there is a gasket for the 200Tdi engine which I believe is the same as on the engine you are replacing. Are you going to be changing the flywheel housing for the one off your old engine? If not then you will hit some issues with bolt holes not lining up.

I use RTV selant between the gearbox and flywheel housing. I was told to do this as it helps stop water leaking into the flywheel when wading, i also put some round the starter motor.:D

No sealant between the box and engine...only as stated between the flywheel housing and the block.

Nick.
