Just taken delivery of a simbar, spare wheel mounted bike carrier, from RST Land Rover Chelmsford via Ebay, first class service.
Need to ask other owners, how loose is the fit between the two components, mine is as slack as a wizards sleeve.
The design idea seems ideal, I know about the possible strain on the door hinges, but without some sort of wedge set up, I don't fncy carrying 2 bikes as it is.

I had one on the Disco we used to have and had the mounting plate behind the wheel with the bike carrier slotted onto the mounting plate and secured with a padlock. In my case the fit between the 2 parts was good, no slackness at all.

some kind of bungy strap arrangement around the bikes and through the spare wheel may help to stabilise the whole thing.

as for straining the hinges, totally avoided if you don't open/close the rear door while the bikes are on it.

Thanks both for you advie, looks like I may have a duff one,
keeping the door closed when bikes are on sounds like the plan.

mines good too even with full load and door open but you have to remember about people on the pavement if you sling door open ,could you use bolt and nyloc instead of lock to hold the two parts tighter

Cant fault the service from RST a quick phone call this morning, a replacement will be here tomorrow. 1st class.

do not for get if part of your bike covers even a small part of the number plate you need a number plate one the top of the bikes or you will get pulled and fined
