i'd prefer to cut the egr bit off the old pipe and weld a plate over. metal pipe will flex less.

looking at the pic, mine didn't look like that. i'd just block both ends off and remove the middle hose.

also remove the gubbins that fits to the manifold

You've put me mind at rest there - I'd taken everything back to the manifold when I did mine. Those pics had me flapping a bit, dunno why, it were running OK.
 
cheers mate both nuts came out easy took me about ten mins :p so nice not to have to bend over the engine and end up with a aching back :rolleyes: next job de,cat exhaust :cool:
