Hi found many Hugh holes in my 3.9v8s exhaust from mid silencer back :(, looking on mm4x4 and they have straight thru stainless steel exhaust for £40 , im running it on lpg aswell, will this cause any problems having less back pressure? And will it be stupidly loud or nice v8 noise?
Thanks all

won't make any difference to LPG - loosing the silencer will give a bit more of a sound

Thanks just wanted a second opinion, didnt think it would , but would wanna shoot myself if i did it and it caused any problems, noise wise, would it be to loud or just a nice v8 noise?

£40 for a stainless system that's a bargin, my Janspeed 'cat back' system was £300 it was louder for the first 100 miles but now just the same as the original it replaced but with a different tone a bit of roar from the boot area when the pedal is to the metal but normally I can hear a thing the cab just how I like it.

You efi ecu may or may not cope with the lack of back pressure, when I first started my engine with the new system fitted the engine reved at 2000 for a minute the settled back down to the normal 700rpm idle so the ecu must have re-adjusted, that was 5 years ago and has been ok ever since .

An exhaust that is louder than standard is an MOT fail if the tester is doing his job correctly and following the MOT manual.

Thanks discool, there must be very little back pressure now with the ammount of holes in it :/ by putting a straight thru it will probably be higher than now lol :) yeah i want abit of noise but not so loud you cant talk in cab without a megaphone, hmm but for the MOT you ever had any problems?

Are you just replacing the mid box? If so should be no problem but be aware there are different patterns of exhaust depending on whether you have manual or auto gearbox. IIRC there are 3 different types of Y pipe (certainly this is true for RRC). The stainless mid box replacement pipe I was running came from a guy with a V8 Disco, the pipe wouldn't fit his particular motor but went straight on the Rangie, so just make sure the pipe you buy is the right one.

i spoke to the man at mm4x4 over the phone, said it will fit straight onto my model, and i did mention it was a auto, so hopefully that wont be a problem, just making sure somebody is in when it arrives now haha, any of you guy heading to newbury this weekend?

MM4x4 £40 item is just midbox replacement pipe.

I have tried all options so:

Remove rear box: slightly more brum.

Remove centre box: lots more rasp, rather loud but not very bassy.

Remove everything: ridiculous, not recommended.

Non baffled centre box, no back box: recommended.

Removing the centre box and leaving the rear box is a very cheap fairly easy way for more volume. And it will make you happy.

BUT if it want a tuned sound, you need to remove all boxes and fit a centre muffler. A muffler is the straight through glass packed sort of device as opposed to a baffled silencer which just makes it quiet :(

So there you go, two options, both easily achievable, with different results :)

I had the MM 4x4 mid box replacement and it was so loud I could not hear myself think inside the cab - took it straight back to the garage and they refitted my mid box - returned item to MM 4x4
I think I'll go for the rear silencer replacement, want a good constant v8 rumble not a booming Scubby exhaust noise...

Hmmmm think i may go for easiest option of no mid box and a back box, should i get standard back box or a cherry bomb or something yobish like that?

If you just remove the rear box kurgan you will get a small amount more moooooooooom but not any more brummmmmmm if you get what i mean!

ben, standard back box is an option but i have seen bike cans fitted etc, all up to you regards sound etc!

I also noticed increased heat under drivers seat when mid box was out.....

Hmmm not sure why that would be pal, if anything I'd expect less heat! Unless the bare pipe emitted more heat than the big crusty box but working purely on surface area and flow resistance I would have thought the silencer would be the hotter item.

Cheers.

Right well thanks for all your advice :) think im going to head to newbury autojumble this weekend see whats available there and if nothing will be ordering mm4x4 on monday :)
