trying to remove rear brake calipers on my discovery 1  bolts heads rounded. access dificult have bought set of stud bolt removers ( socket type ) but 12mm limit. should I continue to round off heads until I can fit extractor. this is or has become a DRAMA HELP A NOVICE.

ok one off with a good amount of heat. the one with harder access to do trying to file down to take 12mm stud bolt exractor. will gladly smack it with a hammer as taken 5hours today so far. back at tomorrow bright and early. thanks for reply. chrisarb

usually if you hit the head of bolt enough times bolt will relax and undo
agree ^^^^^^ if you are removing bolts that look like they are going to be a problem this is a good idea and if the heads do round off then hammering a smaller sockett on will also helps free the bolt off as well as giving new grip

My mate had this problem, we ended up welding an m12 bolt to the calliper bolt, let it cool then stuck a breaker bar and socket on it...worked fine:D

i used an cordless impact on mine last week just for one of the bolts thou. However a 16 sided socket should grip, well did with mine i used 1/2 inch

get a set of irwin bolt grip sockets spent half an hour with no joy borrowed a set of these bolt out in less than a minute bought a set used them when replacing front shocks and ant roll bars a great investmant at about 30 quid
