Hi my sidelights stopped working on the way to mot on nearside. It`s a discovery 2 td5. Ive replaced the fuses F10 OR 11 & checked the bulb holders for power (got 21v on front sidelight & just under 12 for the rear if that sounds right) & the bulbd work ok when putting power to them off a spare battery. Could this be a relay problem ? I saw a post saying to check glovebox light & this works ok so I assume on same circuit. Could this be a relay ?
Ps going out for about an hour so will reply to this topic once back & checked through suggestions.

What year is the D2 and did you check voltages with bulbs connected? if not do it that way ... that 21V doesnt sound right at all cos it's quite impossible unless the alternator is overcharging... i'm always confused by that near or off side things, is N/S left or right?

Hi Sirraferry its a 04 and its the left side looking from inside the vehicle. Ill check to see if I can get the probes in where the cables enter. It didnt look possible wich is why I took the bulbs out.

the rear bulb holder is sealed, but checking the contacts again with bulb removed I got 11.8v, without the engine running. On the front the reading was most likely wrong, as I was trying to juggle the bulb holder and meter, but this time I got my partner to hold the bulb holder so I could check it again & couldnt get any reading. so its likely to be fuse for that front sidelight ? but surely the rear should be working ?

Ok Ill check fuse F11 again, sure it had continuity. Edit it is fuse F11, it has popped it when I switched the side lights on after fitting a fresh 10 amp fuse.

So, where is next to check the cause of fuse F11 keep popping ? is it connected to my trailer socket wiring as this hasnt been rewired in after having the bumper off whilst protecting the chassis.

Dan.

The trailer socket is on the same fuse 11 that's agood point to check
taped up each individual wire & taped them together so theyre not shorting out on each other. It is still blowing the fuse though, also rear number plate bubls have gone so need to replace these, but sould that cause it to blow with both number plate lights gone ?

Check for corrosion in C0484/0102 red/black wires, water ingr3ess there is not uncommon and it affects only the front side leights

Hoping that would be it, as I do have a leak that appears on the front left headlining when parked in the wrong direction. Unfortunately it appears good as new behind both footwell panels, with no sign of corrosion. I assume the place to check (mine being RH drive) was the drivers side as I saw the foot pedal in the above pic. As said though both sides appear good.

i measnt the front holder unplugged
The front sidelight bulb holder ? I can trace it back & see if it can be unplugged, although I didnt see anywhere that was possible to unplug from after removing the bulb.
Sorry for the delay in replying as I`m laying new flooring in the loft room, after moving the water tanks & changing to a single one.

disconnected the front headlight multiplug & put a new fuse in & its blown again after switching the column switch on.
