I've got a set of standard issue side steps on my 300tdi.

At Aldermaston on the week lost trim around one of them.

What is left underneath, plastic strip, has cracked and shows rust in a couple of spots.

Want to get rid of these and put on some sort of slider type thing. Seen some tubular bars you can get, dunno what you'd call them? Saw them on another disco.

Any ideas? Expected hassle and price level etc? :D

Thanks!

you want some rock/tree sliders

I got mine from rock-sliders.co.uk

easy to fix when you know how, i struggled with the 1st one but when i knew how to do it the second was easy.

Jesus Christ they're pricey :-o

Thanks though.

I made a set out of box section and flat plate, should be a photo of them on here somewhere. Cost next to fokal, keeps the mot guy away from the sills coz they are covered with 4mm plate and gives good protection and something to jack and stand on. Fixed them by drilling through both outer and inner sills and big long bolts.

My standard steps got smashed to fook after a couple of days, they sit too low anyway to be honest.

I also fitted a plate over my fuel tank coz it was getting bashed even though its plastic, and a steering guard, still managed to knock off my steering damper a few times though since it only protects the front bits.

Sadly well beyond my skill level to be able to do that :D

Will have to investigate cheaper off the shelf options

i got some at the weekend from skipton landrover car booty thing..

2nd hand ones on ebay r goin for over 100 quid.. then postage collection took em even higher..

these were £125 but knocked him down to £110.. they just bolt on in the same manner as the side steps, onto plates bolted to the bottom of the body mounts on inner sill and outrigger..

if ya got them plates already as you had steps b4, making a set shouldnt be too difficult..

i was gonna make some but couldnt be arsed in the end...

Shame I can barely put up a shelf let alone fabricate some tree sliders lol.

Only because you say you cant and will never learn that way. It would surprise you the fun you would have fabricating a set, a learning curve.

If you are gona go off road then you need to learn DIY.

I did the same thing in Shere and cant find a replacement rubber strip anywhere :(

I took the old rubber strips to the tip yesterday. I guess thats not helping.
I have now bolted some 2nd hand sliders on. these are cheapo ones that just fit to the existing side step brackets. Only issue now is the sliders are being pushed up into the pillar.
Buy a decent set and you won't regret it. I am now looking at welding angle iron to mine to strengthen them up.

i got some just like that on sunday...

fitted but cant get em close to door bottoms like you have.. bout an inch gap..

guess i'll have to undo em and have a wiggle to see if i can raise em up a bit,,,

Sliders are a great purchase. Well worth the money or otherwise you'll be paying out for a door soon too.

Cheers

Yeah it looks like the rock-slider.co.uk ones are th eones really.

Sadly I live in a flat with nowhere to try to fabricate/practice but one day :D

I've never had the chance to try! Sure none of these things are that difficult, its just having the place, tools, time and reason to try!

Oh yeah? Fairly likely! Do get about a fair bit. Easy to spot currently, literally covered in mud, even the roof :D You go out laning locally much?

I guess its all just practice, i tried soldering a few months back to join two wires to a plug, ended up with 2 burns, solder dripped everywhere and a half melted plug! Took it to my dads he done it in 2mins flat

I done a days greenlaning a week after getting mine, Shere and Ockham if your really bored heres the youtube link for them issey23's Channel - YouTube
The misses is filming with my mate infront (disco1997)

Ha yeah I imagine thats how it'd be for me.

Ockham worth a trip then? Where in Shere? Seems TRO's all over the shop now.

Liking the videos, some interesting filming though lol.

Let me know next time ur off out I might well join you if thats cool!

(especially after seeing you like a bit of dnb ;) )

edit: In Ockham is it the Bridge End path, that seems to go to a dissued airfield? Can you actually get onto the airfield?

Ockhams alright quite a short track about 10 mins

Shere was alot longer about an hour all in, it was London Lane off upper street shere london lane - Google Maps

Yeah my otherhalf hasn't quite mastered the camera yet :D

Not going out any time soon, due to my mates 300 has broken its gearbox again :(

Haha dnb it reminded me of my youth of gti's and bass boxes :D

Ahh right prob not worth the trek from Hindhead then.

Eurgh bloody London Lane! Went there on Monday on my lunchbreak. It has a seasonal restriction, so massive gates closing it off from 30th Sept - 1st May. Some guy pulled his car out in front of me blocking me in when I went into the car park at the rec after finding it was shut off. Apparently someone had gone down in a 4x4 and smashed the fence beside it and broken the rec gate to get out when they found the big metal gate. He thought cos my car was covered in mud that is was me! Nope, the pay and play site did that to it :D

Haha, I'm still going to dnb events, festivals etc!

Well if you do fancy going out on a little trip, I'm always up for it!
