We're about to buy a 110 that currently has no side steps and the missus needs a step ladder to get in. The dealer has offered to fit side steps for a good price but I'm worried that they'll get damaged/foul when off-road as they seem to 'hang in the air' beneath the sills.

Is this a legitimate concern? We're not going to be attempting to cross the Andes or anything but my experience off-road to date suggests that this area beneath the sills is often in contact when crossing ridges, etc.

Any advice or comments welcome...

a down to earth landy man would have 2 choices get the steps or and get rid of her indoors or go with out the steps i know what i would do

get yoself a pair of rock/tree sliders. fit some gripper tape along the top (muddy tree sliders are dangerous) and use them as steps. Gives you the steps you require and the protection you will need. Job dun.:D

Tried that an my missus (5' 3") still struggled:D

Ended up fitting steps as I was struggling as well:rolleyes: otherwise she'd have had ta sit in the back.

You could carry a beer crate for her to stand on or park next to small cars an she can slide down the bonnet after stepping out.:D

Sliders sound like a good compromise - and have the added advantage of being protection for the sills which appeals to me having put a nice dent in a Disco sill some years back. Any recommendations for good ones/suppliers - especially bearing in mind the extra purpose of a 'step' (some seem to be very 'close' fits)?

You need to be a giant to use the rock sliders as steps, and if you have a step it will get knackered everytime you go offroad, my steps are totally ****ered.

I suggest a small step ladder for the missus, that you can then stow in 'the car, sure it's a pain in the bunghole, but it's either that or get a divorce :D

forget my last comment what was i thinking ya doris should be at home tending the bairns
and cooking ya tea so she has no need to get in it

if you are using it for offroading forget the sidesteps altogether,we angle grinded me mates ones of his disco at the weekend as they were a pain in the arse, milk bottle crate slung in the back of the motor is the cheapest and easiest option, easy to clean, dont rust, and you can nick em(sorry aquire them) pretty easily

I milk crate is what i've told the girlfriend she's getting. If I use the milk crate I could step onto the roof of her car, but my foot would go through the roof.

I've had the same dilemma. I bought steps for my 110, but have a 90 now and just going to go without. Buy a 90 for offroading. You'll rip your rear quarters off the 110 due to the overhang as well as the steps...
