Hi guys todays mission should I choose to accept it........

Im sick of looking at the side steps in the shed and decided im gona try fit them today
The problem being I never got the brackets with them. Now ive loads of pieces of 3mm stainless steel sheet kicking about so can make my own but the question is
Are all 4 the same? Ie same part number ect..
What I was gona do is make one. then retreat to the warmth of the shed and make another 3 copys
Dont fancy crawling around on the floor messureing/cuting/drilling all 4 when its bearly 5° outside

Lol have to do cos I got stumped at the first hurdle
The riv nuts ive bought dont fit the holes in the chassis ive got m8 and when fully crimped are still loose and ive got m10s that dont fit in the hole and cant get a drill to make the holes bigger cos the sills are in the way :confused:

Good on you, they really improve the looks of a P38 (where's the 'stirring' smiley?)

The M8s should fit, are you certain that you've graunched them up up tight enough.

put these on your xmas list if you havnt got the right brackets/fittings prevention is better than cure imo :D

whats the dia of the hole?

the m8 riv-nuts I have require a hole approx. 11.5mm which I believe is the industry standard, what dia are the riv-nuts you are trying to use?

Lol about 1 mm bigger than the hole
like I say ive not messured I thought I recalled someone once saying m8 so thats what I got. When they dident nip up tight I got the next size up m10 and there too big

what size bolts is it to attach the step to the brackets i have to put drivers side step back on after straightening it but not sure what size bolts to get

I think 8mm but my rivnut had fully rusted up so ive ground it out and put a 10mm right through both sides

I'm not keen on the appearance but would like to keep the ****e off the car and they look like they would stop your doors getting bashed by Mrs Clumsey in the supermarket car park. I notice second hand ones often don't have brackets. How about concluding this with a sketch of the bracket, the Rivnut / chassis hole details and bolt sizes in a 'how to' for us that will want to do this as well in the future?

The clean straight body lines of the P38 just doesn't suit them, they do however work brilliantly as body side protection, Mine had some fitted when I bought it but they had to come off as they were completely rotten, I'm surprised they actually survived the 100 mile drive home from picking the car up really.
