OK, I've found a P38 DSE which I like, but cannot decide whether to buy it or not.
Good points: pretty much everything seems to work, EAS compressors + air suspension bags replaced in last 18 months and work very well, has 4 nearly-new Pirelli Scorpion tyres on 18" hurricane alloys, interior is really nice (unmarked black leather), harmon kardon stereo with original headunit (that currently needs coding), heated seats (rare on non-HSE cars, not sure they work though - didn't get very warm on the test drive), tinted windows, year 2000 light upgrade and a removable 'swan neck' tow bar (no electrics). 3 owners from new, a few months tax and MOT until next March I think.
Bad points: few bumps and scrapes on bodywork (which don't bother me as I'll be greenlaning in it), headunit doesn't work but is getting power, hopefully just needs a code (easy to get?), book symbol on HEVAC although that all seems to work and I know the air con needs a regas, so hopefully that is all it is. Biggest problem is a diesel leak from the injector pump - have been quoted £400 for a rebuild (see this thread for details of the leak if interested: http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f10/p38-dse-leaking-diesel-hevac-fault-158744-3.html) by a local specialist.
Car has done 155,000 miles, was a Land Rover demonstrator, then first proper owner had it up to 60k miles with FSH, his mate bought it off him and has had it last 10 years and 100k miles and has home serviced it - he seems to know what he was talking about mechanically on the phone, and it runs well.
I have been quoted £400 to rebuild the diesel pump with new seals, car was advertised for £2,700, haggled to £2,500 but having found this fault dealer has offered it to me for £2,250 with no warranty or guarantees.
So, what ya reckon Landyzone 'massive' (innit) - worth a punt or walk away? Thing with P38's is they all have faults - if this is the only major fault with the car, my feeling is it is worth a buy, but would appreciate suggestions!
Thanks.
