I am considering a buying a prepped 3 door 95 (N) 300TDI which has just had an engine swap and boot floor job!

off road stuff fitted - winch bumber, diff guards, steering guards, snorkel, 4 spost, 2 inch lift, modular rims.

T&T to August

£1600 from the dealer that fitted the boot floor and engine!

Photos to follow, but sounds good so far.

Intended use is on the Marlborough Downs where there are miles of APril to October access!

I figure the 3 door should be stiffer than a 4 door, also it looks shorter but I think its an optical illusion!

the only odd thing is that the dealer said they cant mot it again until 3 months prior to the current mot expring, which I know is a crock of sh1t, I wonder what they are trying to hide! Anyway I will insist on it being mot'd at my local Vauxhall Dealer before I purchase it.

almost there now found an apparently well maintained 200tdi 7 seater auto, 190K miles lifted/warn 9000lb winch/snork/ 265/75's

In superb "Pre Stressed" condition......

Any recomendations for how to or if to clean an engine bay that is coated in mud?

cover the front of the alternator and pressure wash it - not the radiators tho. gentle hosing from the back for them :D

what a good idea, many thanks and I have a 3 stage karcher which cycles through 3 powers so I will do it on low power, also do you think its safe to jet wash the batteries and multi plugs on the inner wings?

I suppose its a good time of year to do being very dry, I am thinking that its best to clean it all up as if I leave it on and it gets wet in october it will stay wet until May next year!

Also the drivers door needs some urgent attention - fo my sanity -it is dropping about a inch when you open it and the strap is missing, is am planning to start with new hinges so that it shuts without hitting the b pillar!

so next question is who does the best and cheapest hinges and straps online!

Got it home yesterday midday

So far it has been stage 1 cleaned, which included shampoo and scrubbing the seats!
have fitted new door hinge and check strap (to fix drivers door drop), and new headlaight surround CW indicator.

Then last nigth it had its first 6 mile ridgeway off road trip - performed like a dream - and gained it's nice white chalk tire marks!

White spirit to remove gaffatape glue

next job is the tracking - any stickys on this?
then access/remove blower motor from dash - any stickys on this

Also I need a D121 Thule key to get the roof bar off- other wise Ill disc it off!

also here it is next to my BMW 750il - i used to think that was a big safe vehicle, but the disco looks like it would drive over it!

No wonder I am getting more respect from Other traffic at junctions!

Drivers door fully drop fixed, the hinge shims were way out 5 in the top and one in the bottom was making the door window hit the b pillar near the rain gutter, closing perfect now!

Update...

I am getting used to work on it. I have done 210 miles in it since I got it 6 days ago! and today was its first day not going off road since I got it!

At first I thought the tracking was out as it was very unstable over 50mph, then at the weekend i got the the tyre pump out found it had 15/22/32/36 lbs in the tyres so I put 50lbs in each tyre and hey presto - wandering fixed - tracking superb and cornering like a td5 with working air suspension!

Rear offside window glass was not in its metal/rubber slot, after buying a complete scrap door for the motor/assembly, all I had to do was close up the metal rail to get a tight fit and now the window is working perfectly

whilst driving on road's i was getting a lumping/clunking noise from the rear, at first I thought it was the rear antiroll bar as it is touching the petrol tank strap on one side? however it was not that, it was the back door wedge out of alignment and the lock mechanism was loose, tightened the lock and fixed the wedge and bingo - like driving a new disco.
