no your garenteedt o win if yer bid the most.If you bid the same as a sniper then you win if the bids earliest. Impossible for a sniper to be better.

Early bids is the only way to win. Put wot yer prepared to pay. ebay will auto bid it up for you. If you and a sniper bid the same amount the earlist bid wins it. infailable.
I am sorry but that is not the point here it is about paying more than you need to, a hypothetical item @99p that you are prepared to pay £100 for, you bid a day before the end leaving a whole 24 hours for the seller to bid up to your top bid £10 at a time...you pay £100 unless the shiller gets it wrong and overtops you.

Bid £100 pounds 3 seconds from end, you get it for 99p as there is no time to bid you up.

only problem with leaving the item at 99p lill the last minute is that increasingly sellers are withdrawing the item if its not got what they perceive to be sensible bids with 24 hours to go.

a 20 quid bid early shows them theres some intrest , then you can goin higher near the end.

As said before
Don't show your hand untill the last moment.
I always bid in the last 3 seconds with the max amount I am wiling to pay for an item. If I win it great, if I dont it was too expensive and not worth it in my mind
i just use last minute bidd app on the iphone you can put your highest bid in at any time in the auction and it will bid for you right at the last split second ive won loads of auctions using it so it works for me

if your prepared to pay eg £10 for an item put in 10 as yer max bid. Then ebay will bid on your behalf up to an includeing 10 quid. It may be bid up by shill bidders or genuine other bidders but once your limit has been reached you wont win the item. But you also wont pay over what you think its worth. If winning the item and getting a bargin is your main concern then a auction format may not be the best option.

Of you kid bid last mine lose, then get an email two days later offerin you it a 2nd chance as the other person not paid, or does not want to go pick it up.

This doesnt work. Sniping is failed. Early bids is the only way to win. Put wot yer prepared to pay. ebay will auto bid it up for you. If you and a sniper bid the same amount the earlist bid wins it. infailable.

Spoken like a true seller!

Auction Sniper works perfectly, early bidding just pushes prices up and is pointless. Also always bid random amounts, like instead of £100 bid £102.46 - number of times that extra bit has won an item for me is unbelievable!

If you want a fixed amount for a item us Buy It Now - i use it for 99% of what i sell (currently 1000 items on eBay)

i too bid random amounts, usually ending .56 cos the bidding increaments are usually 50p

Your not accounting for the addictive bidders, who will keep bidding up £1 till they've out bid you - they can't do this if you bid at 3 seconds from the end, you just wham in your maximum price you are willing to pay and either win or not, no chance for anyone to out bid you, etc.

people who are willing to pay more win auctions, if i was prepared to pay X amount and they pay X+1 then they will win, more fool them in my mind.

Not if they only know what x is after you've bid. Some people will 'want' an item no matter of the cost and will keep adding £1 to the auction till they win. By bidding at T-minus 2 seconds you do not give them the oppertunity to increase their bid by £1 and out bid you.

A lot of people will think 'ill pay £10 for that' then be out bid and think '£12 isn't much more than £10, i'll bid that instead' - and so on and so forth. If you only want to pay £11 for the item you are going to win it bidding at the last second as they will have only bid £10.

but if its worth a tenner youve paid over the odds.

Just because some retard is bidding £10 doesn't mean he knows the value - you make that assessment yourself. The retard was willing to pay £10 for it - maybe he was after a bargain whereas you were after a solution to a problem (and that solution is worth £11 to you)

eBay has it all wrong anyway - it should be like a real auction house - i.e. an item has a finish time, but, if someone bids near the end then the end time is extended a further 30 seconds (or something) to allow other bidders time to put in a higher bid.
I've use a wholesale auction site in the past which works like this and it does work well for both sellers and buyers.

Gave up on getting a crossmember off Ebay as there were too many halfwits willing to pay over the odds and were using the auction sniper software. Saved up a bit more and gotta nice quarter chassis for £270.
