Hi,

Not been here for a while, everything been running ok....... Hope everyone is safe and well.
I am going to look at a early Mercedes ml270 with 87k miles £500. Looks OK in the photos.

Shall I change my P38? She needs an injector pump change, have that in the garage, headlining and something done with the steering. Also ABS light comes on occasionally, wheel bearing? So thinking need to go through front suspension/bearings/steering.

178k miles starts and runs fine.

If covid lifts next summer I want to try and drive to arctic circle in Norway, 3/4 week trip. Don't have much money but love my rangie, like a lot! Still on air replaced the bags wen I got it ten years ago? Time to change again?

Any thoughts? Good logic to apply to the situation?

Cheers

Ml's are arguably the worst Mercedes ever made, horrible things, interior is cramped , the front seats are the worst if you're 6ft plus you'll have your knees in the dash.
The steering is hideous.
Parts are expensive
Interior quality is crap

You see when you drive it!
A personal thing too is the styling I find them to be hideously ugly..

I could bang on...

Look up the Merc forums, they're littered with ML's part of the reason people can barely give them away.

FIP change isn't a bad job with the right tools. Headlining is an easy afternoon with the Martrim kit. I'd definitely do the bags if they're 10 years old. Spare compressor off Kurt too. Major service and you should be good to go. Don't skimp on breakdown cover!

M51 engine is a lot better if slightly less refined. The Merc will need injector seals replacing regularly they get black death badly if left unchecked

Sounds right to me.
180,000, bit of tlc now you will be right for another 100,000+

Would be nice have an idea on state of the chains/sprockets before FIP but they can run fine to 250,000 sometimes more. Luck of the draw.

The bits in bold are almost word for word what I was going to write :)

I can confirm all of this, I had one, the only good thing about it was the engine (V8).
expensive plug change though, 16 of the buggers.

Thanks Guys, went and had a look, guess what you get what you pay for, inc Hammerite on the bumpers! Thought that went out in the 70s! Lovely and clean under the bonnet, just don't like them like many modern cars the high waistline makes you feel you are sat in a pit. Sorry to take peps time but also good to take stock of the situation. Yep time to get on with the jobs. Steering and bearings are the thing I haven't done before. Oh and not getting warm air on the drivers side but I guess they are another post. Thanks again.
